Precocious Puberty?

Dd is 5, nearly 6. This summer I noticed that she was starting to sweat with "adult" body odour from her armpits.

Tonight she asked me about a hair in her bottom, and showed me what looks like a pubic hair.

I had a look on the internet (the term I found was "precocious puberty", which talks about signs of puberty in girls before 6-8 - www.nhs.uk/conditions/puberty/pages/complications.aspx) and am going to make a doctor's appointment for her next week. She is quite tall for her age.

I wanted to ask if anyone had also experienced this with their children, and how they dealt with it? Am worried :(.

Coming back to this thread.

Dd has decided that she is comfortable with her underarm hair and doesn't want to remove it. I think she's scared of the itching happening again. As long as she's ok with it, then I am too.

OTOH, she has now started swimming in school, and one of her friends asked her about the hair on her bottom. It broke my heart, she went up to her room and took a pair of scissors to it without telling anyone Sad.

I have told her if people ask, just to tell them that they will catch up with her in a few years. In the meantime I have told her that if she wants to get rid of them, I will use the scissors, don't want her doing that by herself at all! She's frightened off the Nair and I think her skin might just be too sensitive for it.

We have switched to a Mitchum 48h solid stick deodorant, the roll-ons got a bit smelly. I feel terrible asking her to wash in the morning and the evening, but her body odour is noticeable and I don't want people making fun of her. Washing her pyjamas every day too. It's quite hard getting 100% natural fibre anything though, most school shirts seem to be polycotton, so any recommendations would be much appreciated!

Hi there,

I'm new to mumsnet and it's the first time I have ever posted a message on a thread (even though I have read countless!!), so I hope it's ok to join your thread as I don't seem to be able to find any other support for parents with children with CPP…

My DD is 8yrs old and just been diagnosed with CCP. At 6.5yrs I noticed pubic hair and about a year later breast buds. She has slightly greasy hair now, no spots, no underarm hair or BO. She is about 137cm height (91st percentile) and her weight is about 26.5-27 kg (50th percentile).

We have seen an endocrinologist and had all the tests: MRI scan, wrist X-ray (bone age is same as her age), bloods, pelvic ultrasound, all fine, just ovaries are only slightly bigger for her age.

We have been advised to go on hormone treatment. I just want to hear if someone's DD had started hormone treatment or not and wanted to see what info I can glean from this. Also is there anyone who might of been through hormone treatment as a child for CPP and any longterm side effects in adulthood?

Much appreciated for any info from anyone, so I don't feel so alone in this situation :(

Hi Glittamama,
Sorry it took a while to see your post. My dd didn't have hormone treatments, I think it's not a very common form of treatment. I think one of my friend's dds might have had it, will chat with her and get back to you.

Hi
Don't think I have posted on this thread before. My DD was diagnosed with PP last year I think. We noticed BO and breast buds at first. As we started the testing for PP she started shooting up. At one piont she was growing 1cm a week! She was tired and grumpy and generally couldn't cope with her emotions. She has hormone injections and her height and weight checked every 3 months. It took about 5/6 months for her growth to slow. I think we are about 15 months into treatment now. She has just turned 7 is 132cm and about 27kg. Since she has started hormone treatment she is so much happier, not so exhausted all the time. She does still have BO so has a shower everyday and wears deodorant. She wears cotton polo shirts for school and I wash her PJs every day. Long term her height isn't an issue for her as my family are stupidly tall. She has some other health issues which mean that being over 6ft would not be ideal for her so we may decide to keep her on the hormone treatments past the usual 11/12 but we will see. I can honestly say there have been no negatives for us.
