Is Boots Chemist unsafe for babies?

katebush2 · 14/09/2012 13:51

I have always bought Boots Baby Head to Toe Wash primarily because it was sold with a tamper proof plastic seal on the cap. Recently Boots have dispensed with this seal. When I rang to ask why I was told that "it is not a legal requirement." I said that this was irrelevant - the seal is a service for customers - & something I insist on for my baby. It is a safety requirement. The person I spoke to had no answer and simply repeated her formula.

Can I suggest that other members consider whether in view of the fact that Boots appears to be willing to compromise the safety of babies - for what can only be a purely commercial reason - that they boycott Boots Baby products?

Meanwhile I would be grateful if someone can recommend a baby wash that comes with a safety seal.

Perhaps I can add that as a resident sometimes in France I have noticed that such products in France generally have seals. I am even thinking of trying to import from over there!

Oh dear. I think a boycott is a bit of an extreme reaction! Why not try just putting said product out of the reach of your baby?

Declutterbug · 14/09/2012 13:54

I am confused. Why does baby wash need a safety cap? Do you not have other shampoo/soap in your bathroom? Surely just keep it out of your child's reach like anything else they could drink/eat/destroy Confused?

How old is your baby? Do you find yourself worrying a lot about small things?

LadyMargolotta · 14/09/2012 13:54

You mean it's a seal that you have to take off before you use it? Why are you worried that it is no longer being used?

Kveta · 14/09/2012 13:54

just put it out of reach, or keep an eye on your child when near it?

Pagwatch · 14/09/2012 13:54

[boggles]

Pumpster · 14/09/2012 13:54

Just put it away! Hmm

JambalayaCodfishPie · 14/09/2012 13:56

I think, you are over-thinking it all.

Put the baby wash on a shelf. Or in a lockable cabinet. You can get them for things that are actually dangerous. Like medicine. Grin

LadyMargolotta · 14/09/2012 13:56

I think she means that it has a seal around it while it is in the shop, and you take it off when you get home. Presumably to stop other customers tampering with it before someone buys it.

ValiumQueen · 14/09/2012 13:56

I would say a tamper proof top would be more of a risk, as a parent could be less likely to store it safely. I think you are totally over-reacting.

Is this a seal to price it's unopened?

Or a childproof seal?

Confused

On the subject of boycotts, will you all join me in bocotting Subway as they put pickle on my halffoot rather than jalapeños. I think the power of MN is needed.

Indith · 14/09/2012 13:58

Do you mean the seals that show that nobody else has opened the bottle before you buy it?

It may surprise you but there are not hordes of people lining up to slip dangerous chemicals into baby wash. I doubt your baby is going to catch herpes or something just because someone may have opened the bottle to have a sniff in the shop.

BedHog · 14/09/2012 13:58

I read it as meaning it's sealed when she buys it, so she can see if anyone has been skulking round the Boots aisles tipping battery acid into the baby toiletries.

ShatnersBassoon · 14/09/2012 13:58

You really don't need to worry about things like this. Apples don't come in tamper-proof seals, but you probably wouldn't think twice about letting your baby put it in their mouth.

ReallyTired · 14/09/2012 13:58

Why don't you just put the bottle out of your baby's reach.
Lack of tamperproof seals on baby products doesn't bother me.

a) Is it actually poisionous or does it just taste disgusting. I would not want
to put anything so toxic in my child's bath.

b) I can put shampoo on a shelf out of the reach of little hands. (To avoid mess)

I would expect tamper proof seals on calpol, bleach, or anything else that might do my children serious harm.

ValiumQueen · 14/09/2012 13:59

Aah! Right. Misunderstood. Cannot say I have ever noticed any with seals. I think if it was a product to be designed for consumption, that would be a valid point, but not in this case.

LadyMargolotta · 14/09/2012 13:59

I think we need to boycott Subway on account of having bland tasteless food.

I love Boots though.

FunnysInLaJardin · 14/09/2012 13:59

wha? You sound a bit unhinged tbh. What are you thinking? That evil strangers are going round all the Boots' adding poison to the bottles of baby wash?

I can honestly say this is so far down my Big List of Things to Worry About that it is practically invisible.
