Is Boots Chemist unsafe for babies?

I have always bought Boots Baby Head to Toe Wash primarily because it was sold with a tamper proof plastic seal on the cap. Recently Boots have dispensed with this seal. When I rang to ask why I was told that "it is not a legal requirement." I said that this was irrelevant - the seal is a service for customers - & something I insist on for my baby. It is a safety requirement. The person I spoke to had no answer and simply repeated her formula.

Can I suggest that other members consider whether in view of the fact that Boots appears to be willing to compromise the safety of babies - for what can only be a purely commercial reason - that they boycott Boots Baby products?

Meanwhile I would be grateful if someone can recommend a baby wash that comes with a safety seal.

Perhaps I can add that as a resident sometimes in France I have noticed that such products in France generally have seals. I am even thinking of trying to import from over there!

I've bought loads of different baby products. Hardly any have a tamper proof seal.
You are being utterly ridiculous and paranoid. I suggest you seek professional help.

Can just see it now Chaos. Right behind "What if the hokey cokey isn't really what it is all about?" Grin

Did you see that a woman walked up to a baby and handed him a bottle containing bleach?

How would tamper-proof bottles have prevented that?

And what about all the other products that you use in your home? They are not all in tamper-proof bottles. Are you going to protest about those too?

winnybella · 14/09/2012 14:09

Hmm. I haven't noticed many baby cosmetics having tamper proof seals in France, tbh, and I've raised my DC here.

YABU and paranoid.

Pooka · 14/09/2012 14:09

I have never felt perturbed at lack of safety cap on baby toiletries.

I don't even understand why it is necessary. On medicines yes, since accidental overdosage can be fatal. In any case hv check ups and the red book make parents aware that children can on occasion open "childproof" caps and that one shouldn't be complacent about their efficacy.

My general rule of thumb is if I don't want the kids to be able to grab or drink something, it is out of their reach. This really relates to ousehold cleaning products and medicines because of their toxicity and the impact of ingestion.

But a baby head to toe wash? I'd rate that on the same level as soap, which sits bath side. Obviously if I saw them gnawing on a bar of soap I would remove it. But I imagine that the taste would teach a pretty fast lesson that eating soap/hand wash is unpleasant.

(that link may be distressing, btw)

We simply cannot legislate for every single risk in life. Or protect our kids from every single risk.

To get caught up in worry about a risk that is so tiny, is not good. Are you generally an anxious person, OP?

Pooka · 14/09/2012 14:11

Ah. So is the op talking about child proof caps or the plastic seal that shows not been opened prior to purchase?

Either way - not something that has really figured high in my list of things to worry about.

CaptainHetty · 14/09/2012 14:11

Put it where your child can't reach it?

Bit of an over-reaction Hmm

ChaosTrulyReigns · 14/09/2012 14:11

OP, may I ask if you come back why you thought that Boots removed the seal for commercial reasons? Perhaps it could have been environmental reasons?

ISeeThreadPeople · 14/09/2012 14:12

Perhaps don't give it to the baby to play with? Win win.

A childproof lid on baby top to toe wash? No thanks how are you supposed to open that with one hand while holding the baby with the other?
