How can I boost my Ds's immune systems?

DS1 (7) and DS2 (3) have both had a tough time due to various virus's and infections. They both caught chicken pox back in Oct and had it really bad, so bad my doc was concerned that DS1 could get blood poisioning due to the vast amount and size of the spots.Since then they have both seemed to have virus after virus infection after infection. I know all kids will get illnesses but they have certainly had more than most.GP ruled out glandular fever as DS1 is fit and healthy inbetween.
So my question is, is there anything I can give them to boost their immune system? The take multi vitamins (not sure how affective they are) they both eat LOTS of fruit and veg, active and both at a healthy weight for age/height. Any suggestions?

I give both dds a product called Sambucol - it contains black elderberry which is a good herbal antiviral, but it's a liquid which tastes a bit like boiled sweets so not difficult to take. I do think it has helped a lot in reducing colds or at least the duration of colds , and if I think they're getting something I double the dose.

Vitamin d could also be good

I give mine a probiotic drink everyday and they haven't had a day off school in 5 years! Eldest hasn't even had a cold for years.

Sambucol and probiotic are good things to Add in when children are low. I know it is not popular on here but I would suggest seeing a Homeopath.

I've also seen that suggesting homeopathy seems to be unpopular but I started taking our ds's to one when I wanted to inprove their immunity, I think it has helped, we also do regular probiotics, http://www.biocare.co.uk/default.aspx?GroupGuid=29&ProductGuid=15360&PageItemGroupGuid=1062 these

What probiotic drinks do you mean? Are they better than ordinary live yoghurt? I have a DS who seems to be in the midst of a run of illnesses. He drinks very little, likes fruit but not veg at all. I am trying to get him to drink more as I'm sure he is often dehydrated buts it the most we can do to get him to drink drinks at mealtimes so he will only have 3-4 ish drinks a day

I mean the little bottles of flavoured probiotic drinks - I mainly buy supermarket brand now unless the expensive one are on offer :) Whether these are the same as live yoghurt I have no idea.

we started using them when my eldest was a toddler and had a run of tummy bugs and we were also weaning him off an afternoon feed. we used to shove a straw in them and call them "milk with straw's" and he and younger brother when old enough would have one with a biscuit mid afternoon. They still call them milka straws which is what they called them when little!

Anyway, they seemed to settle his tummy and and as i say, the boys are rarely ill - we don't have them religiously every day now that they are 12 and almost 11.

My dd has been continually ill with various things all year, (its a long story!) anyway she has Sambucol with the added zinc & vitamin c, she's just got the first cold in months & months. Amazon is the cheapest place to get it. She also has a prebiotic powder, it's tasteless so you can add it to juice or water without them noticing. Works out much cheaper than the yoghurty drinks especially if your lo has plenty of dairy anyway.

Would you consider swimming out in the countryside? A dip in a lake, river or stream is very good for your immunity. As is the sea. And very possible now the weather is (slightly) warmer.

Mine were both laid really low after chickenpox, for months, one virus after another. I think it really knocks their immune systems (mine had it really badly too). I wish we vaccinated against it in the uk, it's a horrible illness.

you need a homeopath to increase their vitality.... my son just had his 2nd year of 100% attendance at school (Smile, having been treated hpathically and with a good healthy diet.

My son was constantly ill and we were recommended to give him manuka honey. It's got wonderful health benefits and helps weak immune systems. He has a spoonful daily on his weetabix and is very healthy now. You can buy it in health food shops and it has a rating the higher the number the better. Try it it's all natural and tastes lovely, expect to pay about £10 a jar - ration it!!
