My 5 yr old is poorly , he has a temp of 39 (underarm so that is 40 isn't it ?)
He has been kind of sick (no food in it just bile and watery stuff )
All he wants to do is sleep but keeps waking complaining of a sore stomach , throat and just now legs .

I am running a fine line between convincing myself it is just a bug and thinking he is actually properly ill . The reason for this is ten years ago I was told my 14mth old had a cold and possible slight chest infection and within hours he died .

How do I work this stuff out now ? I can feel the panic in me rising but I just don't know how to sail through this shit anymore .

Sorry for being all self indulgent and stuff but could do with a manly pat or some such reassurance .

Back to the germs. This latest virus has really lingered here. DS1 had it two weeks ago and had a week off school and still isn't 100 %. I had it and I am still coughing.

The GP said it could take 6 weeks. Shock

Hope you get it over with soon travelling. have you escaped it yourself?

Oh no, I hate it when they pass illnesses around! My boys have got a sore throat, rashy thing at them moment but it seems like there is constantly something wrong with one of them.
I blame bloody school and nursery.

So far so good on me not getting it , I have spoken to a couple of parents and it is indeed going round like wildfire , one local school had less than 50% attendance 2 weeks ago .

We have been lucky in that this is the first thing either of them have had for months , just as well really with their panicky mum .

nl Thank you , I know you are right , I am just not used to it I suppose , which is a good thing as it means 99% of people (bereaved or otherwise) would completely understand .

Thanks travelling. I think the house has smelt like Vicks and Olbas Oil for the best part of a month. Grin

I have only just read this thread, tw, and I 'got' it immediately. And I'm not an HCP who might be expected to have a little sensitivity.

I am pleased to hear everything is looking a little better now, and so sorry for your dreadful loss :(

travellingwilbury · 10/03/2012 15:15

Better than sick and sweat which I think mine must smell like , they aren't bunged up but maybe I will waft some olbas around just to freshen things up a bit Wink

I am glad your DS is ok. Once something terrible happens to you in your life, you can never trust the world to be a benevolent place again so I totally understand your panic re your child's illness. BTW, my DS1 (6) had the same thing about 3 weeks ago and he was the most ill I have ever seen him in my life. It totally wiped him out for ages and he is not at all a sickly child. The doctor said that there are some nasty viruses going around at the moment.
