Take her to the opticians for an eye test. Might be something going on with her eyes/sight

ScarlettIsWalking · 02/12/2011 23:02

I believe headaches ( if not accompanied with a head cold) are very unusual in children of this age.

You are worried. Please insist to be seen and voice your concerns. She is obviously unwell and needs a complete checking over. Ear nose throat at tje very least.

timetosmile · 02/12/2011 23:06

Agree with both posters. If your gut feeling is concern, then take her back to the Drs...over the weekend if you are very worried.
Is there any problem with her balance/walking/coordination?
Has she had her urine tested for a wee infection, which isn't always symptomatically as obvious as in adults?

lozza1985 · 02/12/2011 23:07

thanks for replies Smile she sees a optician as she wears glasses might try and get her seen again though just to be sure x also when I took her to gp on tue he checked ears nose throat etc everything was fine then so not sure really what to do ? can't get her into doctors till Monday that's if they got ne app !

If I were you I would be taking DD to a hospital A&E department over the weekend.

Please remember that it is probably a bug/virus of some kind and there are loads about at the moment, but, her symptoms could be a sign of something bigger and, as you are worried yourself, you really need to have her checked at hospital. No A&E department will mind seeing a 5 year old with the symptoms you describe, particularly as you have already taken the GP's advice to give her Calpol & see what happens.

winnybella · 02/12/2011 23:08

Get her checked out. Could be just a virus, could be migraines, but headaches/vomitting can also be a symptom of something much more serious so it needs further investigation imo. Can you see a different doctor? Or get referred to a paediatrician?

leftmymistletoeatthedoor · 02/12/2011 23:09

Did they check her ears? Any temp?

I'd get a child of that age checked out again with headache + vomiting. Ds has had a weird bug starting with sickness and diorrheoa which lasted 1.5 weeks then horrible cold then (now) ear infection which resulted in temp of 39.9 and aversion to light this morning. He never had a headache though and I think that would concern me.

lozza1985 · 02/12/2011 23:09

she is a clumsy child but she always has been x

OP posts:
winnybella · 02/12/2011 23:09

Or A&E.

lozza1985 · 02/12/2011 23:11

if it was something more serious would she have vomiting all the time ?? she is only been sick once at night then seems ok ?

OP posts:
lozza1985 · 02/12/2011 23:12

I mean once at night for the last 3 nights

OP posts:
JinglePosyPerkin · 02/12/2011 23:13

Oh, should have added that unless your DD seems very poorly tonight I would probably wait until the morning. A&E departments are not great places to be on a weekend evening, especially just before Christmas and especially with a poorly child.

I really hope DD feels better soon x

JinglePosyPerkin · 02/12/2011 23:15

The truthful answer lozza is that I don't know. It's more the headache in a 5 year old that would worry me. It may well be that her glasses need changing, as she wears them already, but it would probably give you peace of mind to get her looked at properly.

lozza1985 · 02/12/2011 23:16

thankyou she is fast asleep in bed at the mo think I'll see what the night brings and go from there if she still unwell I'll take her to the out of hours doctor or a&e x

OP posts:
winnybella · 02/12/2011 23:16

Look, headache and vomitting in children is not a symptom to be ignored. It can be something totally benign but IIRC there are serious conditions that can cause headache and intermittent vomiting. Don't want to scare you but brain tumours are one. Of course it is extremely unlikely and it's probably nothing serious, but I think it would be better to get her checked out.

rowingdowntheriver · 02/12/2011 23:17

I'd recommend giving NHS direct a call. They will ask you to talk through her symptoms and if necessary you will get to speak to a nurse or dr. They will let you know if you need to get to an out of hours dr, a&e or if it is ok to wait until mon. Hope she feels better soon.

winnybella · 02/12/2011 23:17

Is she vomitting while sleeping?

JinglePosyPerkin · 02/12/2011 23:18

I hope she feels better when she wakes up - children do just shake these things off sometimes & leave us parents wondering what all the worry was about Smile. Do post back over the weekend and let us know how she gets on x.

cadelaide · 02/12/2011 23:23

How long has she been having the headaches?

I think I would just make a pain of myself at the doctors.

Just to reassure you, DD has always suffered from headaches, certainly from about that age. She gets nauseous often too. She suffers from asthma and allergies (to we know not what, probably hay fever) and wears glasses. I have worried myself silly about her in the past but she's thriving. She's uncomfortable in one way or another a lot of the time but shows signs of growing out of it.

She's nearly 11.

lozza1985 · 02/12/2011 23:24

first night she woke up then was sick the other 2 nights she was trying to get to sleep and was sick headache s are normally during the day

Ahh, I hope she's better soon, lozza
Your plan to let her sleep tonight and take her to see a doc over the weekend, maybe tomorrow, at out of hours or A&E sounds fine to me.
Hope you all have a good night x

lozza1985 · 02/12/2011 23:27

thankyou I will post tomorrow really appreciate all your replys Smile

I'm not being funny but do people understand what A&E actually stands for Confused, I was there last Saturday and honestly it was mad busy. What exactly would you expect them to do for sporadic headaches and vomiting? An urgent MRI or something? Because that really really would not happen, they would refer you back to your GP if it was not an Accident or Emergency.

Hope your dd is well soon, I certainly suffered random headaches at that age, whatever it is I'm sure your Gp can deal with it, if you are not happy with your Gp get a second opinion.

JugglingWithGoldandMyrhh · 03/12/2011 13:00

Fair enough LD - perhaps a walk in centre (like we have) would be more appropriate. It's just that doctors aren't always easy to find at the weekend.
I'm sure A&E will have had much more annoying and trivial cases to deal with.
I don't think they'd mind giving some advice with this though may well refer back to GP.
I'm sure you're right too that there'd be a long wait in A&E.
Bottom line is if the OP is worried she should seek some medical attention for her dd.

JugglingWithGoldandMyrhh · 03/12/2011 13:02

How is she today lozza ?
