Can we start a new asthma support thread now dreaded winter season is looming?

Hi,
I can't seem to find the old support thread. I lurked on it during many long, lonely and frightening nights and admissions with ds over the past year and a half.
My ds is 21 months now, was hospitalized at 8 weeks severe bronchiolitis (really thought he would die) then every 3-4 weeks since whenever he gets a cold. No symptoms in between colds but a wet, crackly chest with some wheeze with every cold. Plus of course the dreaded tracheal tug and sternal recession that heralds an admission.
It is all so bloody draining and heartbreaking!
We are just starting with a new bout today after a whole 8 weeks of being well. I am debating whether to call in sick for my nightshift tonight or leave poor hubby with an inevitable hospital admission AND our 4 year old!
Anyway, would be good to hear from others going through similar so we can all support each other ( or direct me to the original support thread!)

Ali how is he doing?

alibobins · 15/11/2012 12:41

Waiting on last lot if bloods and last lot of antibiotics the think we can come home Smile he's far from himself but better than he was x x

Sirzy · 15/11/2012 13:10

Glad he is well enough to go home :)

alibobins · 15/11/2012 16:52

We are home Smile ds is now on the emergency list to have his tonsils and adenoids.

Sirzy · 17/11/2012 21:52

How is he doing Ali? How is everyone else getting on?

DS has woken up 3 nights in the last week having asthma attacks. Thankfully the ventolin has cleared them pretty quickly but I wish i could pin point what is causing them!

cedmonds · 18/11/2012 16:27

Sizry ds is worse when the temperature has dropped in his bed room so we have an electric radiator in his bed room and that helps.

Ds had croup for the first time in ages on Friday night. He now has a horrid chesty cough and cold. He has a temperature and is of his food. I took him to dr yesterday and they said tonsillitis even though he has no tonsilsHmmThey wouldn't even listen to his chest even though he is having 10puff of Ventolin and still struggling Sad
~Hope everyone else is OK

Sirzy · 18/11/2012 19:28

I am wondering if it is temperature related, although he has been 'off' all day so perhaps something is brewing.

Hope your DS is ok, sounds about right for GPs with his history you would have thought checking his chest would be the first think they did. hope it clears quickly.

cedmonds · 18/11/2012 21:05

Hope he isnt brewing anything!! DS has been to A+E and he has now got Pred and antibiotics. He has a horrid croup sounding cough.

Sirzy · 18/11/2012 21:07

Bless him hope he is better soon.

Argh help, haven't been on this thread for ages one of my twins 3.5 had 3 admissions for viral asthma last winter. Touch wood he's been fine since, both boys have been coughing since Friday, today noticed dt1 breathing very fast checked his stats and they were 94,
And then perked up a bit and says 95 96, went to bed at 7 just checked on him and breathing very fast again and sats 89/90. He hasn't had inhalour since he had pneumonia at 18 months.
Wondering whether too give him a few puffs of dt2's ventolin?
Also have ill ds1 and I've not long got out if hospital again so that's the last place I want to go.

Sirzy · 19/11/2012 19:59

I would be tempted to call OOH to get him checked. Hope he is ok

LargeGlassofRed · 19/11/2012 20:12

Thanks Sirzy, I really thought they'd grown out of it, the thing is I'm pretty sure if I woke him up he'd perk up again, he's just had another big coughing fit so will check him again in 20mins see if there is any change.
Really tempted to give him ventolin but hesitant as not prescribed for him.
Had a crap few weeks exhauseted and can't make my mind up.

Sirzy · 19/11/2012 20:17

The fact he hasn't needed inhaler since he was 18 months is a good thing!

I think I would be tempted to aswell, especially if he has had it prescribed to him before then take him to the GP tomorrow.

alibobins · 19/11/2012 20:26

I would be tempted to give him a few puffs too unless he really starts to struggle.

Cedmonds I hope ds is feeling better soon

Ds1 is doing fab (touches wood) he is back at the consultant next Tuesday
Ds2 is still having a really rough ride he has lost loads of weight and looks pale hopefully he will be sorted soon.

sirzy glad you are managing with the new meds.

Sirzy · 19/11/2012 20:29

Hope DS2 feels better soon x

DS is doing well, still has his moments and had a few dogey moments at night recently but generally much better :)

cedmonds · 19/11/2012 20:31

I'm the same view as the others.
Ali glad ds1 is doing well its about time he had an easy time with his asthma! Hope ds 2 is better soon.
Ds is still coughing away it sounds really chesty just put him to bed and he is hacking awaySad

LargeGlassofRed · 19/11/2012 20:38

Thanks everyone, this thread is fantastic for breathing support.
Checked on him breathing rate 45, sats 89 so given three puffs checked again after 5 mins and were up to 96 :) so will check again in 30 mins, his temp ok at the moment at least.

LargeGlassofRed · 19/11/2012 21:00

:( sats down to 92 now, not sure whether to give 3 more?

LargeGlassofRed · 19/11/2012 21:05

Picked ds1 up ill from school today too, he's really dizzy no other symptoms worse when he sits up or moves, never rains but it pours.

LargeGlassofRed · 19/11/2012 21:30

Given 3 more puffs, going to give till 10.

alibobins · 19/11/2012 21:37

Hopefully things will improve I would give 5 and if no improvement you maybe should get him checked tonight Sad I know it's hard when you've got another poorly little one.

LargeGlassofRed · 19/11/2012 21:48

Thanks Ali will check at 10, he's had 2 lots of three so far so if low at 10 will try another 3.
He seams deep in sleep at the moment.

alibobins · 19/11/2012 21:58

Fingers crossed

LargeGlassofRed · 19/11/2012 22:04

Thanks Ali just woken coughing and crying but sats better at 94. Think if they stay above 92 will try find wait it out.

alibobins · 19/11/2012 22:08

Our hospital doesn't give oxygen unless days drop between 92 so that sounds like a plan hopefully you can get him seen in the morning
