molluscum contagiosum

my 6 year old dd is having a molluscum nightmare! She has had it now for about 2 years, and it has created patches of nasty spots on her body, which bit by bit have moved on but recently it got a lot worse- over the past week - and it is now all over her bottom and all down her legs, also on her elbows and neck. we have been back to the doctor (for the fourth time) and I was ready to scream at him if he said "Nothing can be done" this time but thankfully he prescribed some anti-histamine, but how is this helping? is she allergic to something? he also prescribed some oilatum for her to bath in and calamine lotion, which have helped since it was also very itchy. It looks awful on her lovely long legs, and she has been very tolerant with it. I am at my wits end with it!!!!!!
we are due back to the doc this Friday ( he asked us to come back) - has anybody else's little one had it this bad?

Thanks V.much, Louise - maybe my dd has that ezcema type reaction to the spots that 1 in 10 chldren get? she has never had ezcema before, but the spots on her legs and arms are slightly different to the other molloscums in that they are a bit flatter, smaller and itchy and they have grouped together more. They seem a bit better this evening, although it is hard to tell amongst the calamine lotion. At least they have stopped itching with the oilatum, calamine and medicine. My dh had ezcema very badly when he was little, and he thinks it doesn't look like ezcema, but then I suppose it wouldn't with the molluscum too? anyhow, I guess we battle on and see what the Doc says on Friday.

Just to let you know that the stuff the doc prescribed worked brilliantly, and my DD's skin is back to being soft,perfect and beautifull! molloscum has now completely gone. Turns out it has brought on ezcema, and she is still having baths in oilatum (fab stuff) - the doc said to keep it going for a few months. She still has a little bit of ezcema on her neck and back, and the doc said treat it with hydrcortison cream. It could be that when molloscum is on the way out it suddenly gets a lot worse for a bit?
The molloscum nightmare is over!!!!!!
Anyhow hope this helps anyone in a similar siuation

My four kids have all caught molloscum from each other, they've had it for over a year and the oilatum isn't doing anything for them at all :(

My DD has had molloscum for ages too - for almost two years I think. The spots got big and nasty a couple of weeks ago, and we had tried all sorts, so then we did try homeopathic tablets called thuja. After a couple of days of my DD taking them, they suddenly got much worse and itchy and they spread all down her legs! we stopped the tablets, and then saw the doc. I think the homeopathic tablets sort of pushed it out, but I am not sure. However it has got rid of them, that and the stuff from the doc. But now she has a bit of ezema, so there maybe there is a link, as that topic says, thanks voodoomunkee.
I have also heard from other mums it gets worse before it goes, I am afraid. Sorry thats not much help, Blottedcopybook, and some kids seem to get just a little bit and it goes and some get it very bad. I think the oilatum is more for the ezcema that the molloscum can cause. The whole molloscum thing is hideous, I do sympathise. Might be worth having a go at the thuja thing if it persists with your little ones?
my DD liked the homeopathic tablets, called them her sweeties, was most peeved when we stopped her taking them.

Hi monstamum. My DD2 has had horrid molluscum for about a year all over her shoulder that are suddenly spreading very rapidly down her back and chest (she has at least 20 now). Recently my DD1 has developed a very unslightly one on the back of her neck which I think she has scratched and it has become very large and red, and I fear more are developing. Our GP has also sent us away saying there's no treatment suitable for children. Can you tell me what your doctor prescribed? Many thanks.

Hi - I have recently seen a specialist about my youngest's molluscum (eldest has also suffered from molluscum but has now cleared up) it just seems to be getting worse! He recommended a treatment called poxiderm and fingers crossed it seems to be improving!

Thank you st24. In the end I gave my girls an antihistamine prescribed by my GP and my oldest's molluscum have now cleared up. Most of my youngest's disappeared too, though I've recently noticed 3 new ones, so might try poxiderm. Wonder if you've continued to have success with it?

one of my friends has been soaking cotton wool pads in cider vinegar and then sticking over the spots with a dressing, then leaving over night. she is convinced it is working miracles.

Yes we are now molluscum free! - I was advised to give it up to 10 weeks for full effectiveness but 8 weeks later we are molluscum free and it seemed to be effective within the first couple of weeks - I'd definitely recommend giving it a try.

When my DD1 got this I found a site called molluscum.com and bought a starter pack. It worked very quickly for both of my girls. I think it's a silver suspension. I also pulled the White things out of the spots when they got big, they didn't get any scars when I did that.

My daughter has just being diagnose with molluscum contagiosum on this Saturday from 1 spot behind her left leg back in august now she has 5. I took her to the GP last weekend and they diagnosed her. I was puzzled, I was excited, and I was skeptical – could… something as simple as apple cider vinegar actually be the treatment, the cure that so many worried moms out there including me have being looking for? I purchased it on Tuesday in my local shop and I Just started 3 nights ago, and already there are signs of improvement!
I talked to my daughter who just turned 6 to let her know that we're going to try this and it may or may not work. We don't want to get our hopes up, but after just 3 treatments I can already see improvement and I am very hopeful. I give her 1 spoon of apple cider vinegar mix with water to drink daily I will do it for a whole week this will help her and bring the body back into a more alkaline state, which will help fight off the outbreak of molluscum and cover each spot with a cotton ball dap directly in the vinegar and cover them with microporous tape every night. And I will keep doing so until those horrible little thing dried off. To all desperate moms out there please look into the ACV with molluscum on google and I am sure you will be amazed. !!! Please look it up. I join this net just a few minutes ago just so I can shared with you all. Why can't doctors tell you about alternative methods you could try at home? And so far after doing the bath soak with half cup of vinegar and salt and taped on cotton balls, there has been no complaints of any discomfort from my daughter. Please try I think it's worth it. I have more hope now than never it will work. I will keep update you all!!!!!
