mariovittone.com/2010/05/154/ bumping for you

singarainbow · 30/05/2011 22:24

Thanks for the bumps, I have always believd that you may be able to take you kids to swimming lessons, it doesn't make them drown proof, this article then made me realise how little I know as a parent and adult about drowning.

Thanks - alarming but taught me something

ChildofIsis · 30/05/2011 22:31

Thank you so much.
I would never have known this, and I did a lifesavers course as a teenager.

zookeeper · 30/05/2011 22:33

so chilling. I remember watching a lifeguard spring around the pool I was in and jump in behind me to fish out my little girl who had sunk under the water maybe two metres behind me. I'd only had my eye off her for few seconds. she didn't make a sound until she was brought up.

bleedingstill · 30/05/2011 22:35

Well, I have certainly learnt something new. Some friends are going on holiday with lots of children. I will make sure they read this. Have posted on FB as well. Thank you so much for sharing.

singarainbow · 30/05/2011 23:27

Dreya, the article came from facebook, so you may be able to find the original, might be easier to share the info.

Swimming lessons may not make children drown-proof, but competent swimmers are far less likely to drown in the scenario described than weak or non-swimmers, IMO

Interesting article and really worth reading. But for me the moral of the story is to get your children taught to swim and swim properly.

singarainbow · 30/05/2011 23:33

Quattro, I totally agree, but was surprised that I was so busy teaching them to swim, I never educated myself about drowning.

Another shameless bump. Everyone should know this.

dikkertjedap · 31/05/2011 19:01

Bump

Carrotsandcelery · 31/05/2011 22:10

Bumping this again for the evening crowd.

sneezecakesmum · 01/06/2011 23:31

Thanks this is very alarming but so informative, i certainly wasnt aware of this response.

It does explain how children can drown in a swimming pool with people all around and lifeguards all around - they are just very quiet!

thanks again

JuicyLips · 01/06/2011 23:44

scary but true. thanks for bringing this up op.
