Hi,
not sure if this post is in the right place cos im still relativley new here but I was just wondering if it's ok to use a shampoo such as pantene on my DS's hair who's turning 3 next month?

she's got masses of long hair (always has had since birth) and any other type (baby ones etc even herbal essence) just don't seem to tame it & once it dries it's all bitty (even though its trimmed regulary)

Does anyone know if this shampoo is ok to use on childrens hair??

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but im not sure myself???Blush

Thanks
D

I hope so because I've been using whatever shampoo I have on dd's hair. She's 3.2 years old now but have been doing it since she first had hair.

babyapplejack · 10/03/2011 20:39

I would think it was probably OK if you can be careful not to get it in her eyes and also I wouldn't wash it too freqently.

Dawnyann · 10/03/2011 20:51

Yeah she's quite good at tipping her head back for me to rinse without any going in her eyes and I prob wash about 3 times a week it's just that a hairdresser once told me that Pantene was banned in Germany cos it's bad for your hair???

it sounds a little ridiculous now i've repeated it back, something about all it does is coat your hair with a kind of plastic coating which is why it feels so silky & smooth?? Anyone else ever heard anything about this lol Confused x

Do you use conditioner?

JarethTheGoblinKing · 10/03/2011 20:55

The stuff that makes it feel silky is probably silicone, you can get shampoos and conditioners that don't have it.

maxybrown · 10/03/2011 20:58

why not put some conditioner on instead? I am actually using a simple conditioning shampoo on DS age 3 and a half at the minute but I would use conditioner on her!

maxybrown · 10/03/2011 20:58

I mean Simple as in made by Simple!

Dawnyann · 10/03/2011 21:00

Yes infact i prefer the conditioner to the actual shampoo, like I can use baby shampoo then finish off with a stronger conditioner such as Pantene cos it stops her hair getting knotty for a couple of days whereas other conditioners dont and she screams the place down when it comes to brushing it the next morning.

that makes sense about it being silicone, if i swapped for one without it in, then would it just not be as good of a result you think?

I occasionally use a conditioner on DDs hair - she is just 4. I don't everytime because she doesn't always cooperate. I should think it is OK by now.

Also if she doesn't like having her hair brushed you could try a Tangle Teezer hairbrush. They don't pull nearly as much.

BigBoneyBum · 10/03/2011 21:07

I hope so too - I've been using normal shampoo on my 3 yr old for ages...

May I suggest the joy of Aussie leave-in spray conditioner, and those tangle teaser (sp?) brushes?

Both very good and very handy for long hair.

Another long haired 3yr old DD here - after almost 3yrs of washing her hair with baby all in one type stuff I recently spent an eye watering amount on baby shampoo from my hairdressers - the difference is amazing! BUT I am never, ever going have that amount of spare cash regularly (it was the end of Xmas money!), nor could I justify it I don't think! But seriously amazing, shampoo and leave in conditioner, smells lovely, not stingy etc etc.

I actually use Ausie myself and think this is what she will get from now on once the luxury goods are finished!

Dawnyann · 10/03/2011 21:13

Purveor - why do you only occasionally use conditioner?? is it purely because of the co-operation thing or is there another reason like being bad for their hair etc???

Bigboneybum - Thanks for the tip i've tried one tangle spray in conditioner, can't think of the name now but it smelt of pears and wasn't very good so didn't bother purchasing another when it was gone but I will look for one of those tangle teaser brushes. Any ideas where sell them & wot do they look like??

I must admit that im not the gentle of mums when it comes to brushing her hair & do tend to rag her a bit Blush :(

Caz10 -wot was the baby shampoo called? (not that I think I can afford it either, just curious) lol Wink

If its long have you thought of brushing it out when wet then putting into one or two plaits overnight? I did this with dd1 - she now does it herself - and it makes a huge difference to tangles in the morning!

PigeonPie · 10/03/2011 21:17

We use Faith in Nature shampoo on our DSs (5 and 3) because it is more natural. DS1 has conditioner on his hair as it can get a bit wayward otherwise. The tea tree one also helps to keep the dreaded nits at bay.

Dawnyann · 10/03/2011 21:21

weegiemum, I HAVE recently started tying it back for bed & a couple of nights have plated it but not wet cos I don't like the idea of going to bed with damp hair (something my mother always used to say about catching a cold haha) prob another old wives tale but it's stuck! Wink

Pigeonpie - not had to tackle the dreaded nits as yet but am not looking fwd to that! Sad

Only do it occasionally mostly because of the cooperation thing, maybe gets conditioner once a week. It does make it much softer and more manageable, but her hair isn't very long so it isn't essential.

Boots sell the Tangle Teezers, but this is the cheapest I found them online. There is also this version for kids, and a compact version, but I haven't tried any of those.

Dawnyann · 10/03/2011 21:26

Thats a great link thank you i've never heard of these brushes before and are definatley going to invest in one now Grin x

Lush do something called R&B I haven't used it, but I've heard it's very good.

Caz10 · 10/03/2011 21:54

Shampoo here

and Conditioner here

Can I please just point out that I am seriously Blush Blush about how much it cost!! Not my normal type of purchase, dd is getting a tiny drop per hairwash, it has to last until she starts school, lol!

bamboobutton · 10/03/2011 21:54

i also use faith in nature. the seaweed one turns my hair from tangled and impossible to brush straw into managable silky lovliness and makes DSs curls all springy and lovely again too.

bruffin · 10/03/2011 22:38

I used to use the avon ones
