My DD has been teething for the past couple of days and had a high temperature with snotty cold like symptoms, ive been dosing her up every now and then with calpol and sometimes some ibuprofen.

Today she has no temperature but keeps going through bouts of screaming and is being really clingy. She sort of shudders every now and then and her stomach seems rumbly. She alsolooks paler than normal, not deathly pale but sort of unwell pale.

I'm not sure if im just being paranoid...

How much have you given her?

ednurse · 21/02/2011 15:28

well how much have you given?

nickelbabe · 21/02/2011 15:29

if you're worried, take her to the doctor.

they won't be annoyed at you if she's okay, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

GeraldineAubergine · 21/02/2011 15:29

How much have you given her?

starfishmummy · 21/02/2011 15:30

If you have followed the instructions then maybe not BUT it does sound like she might be poorly.
Can you get a doctors appointment or at least call NHS direct?

Unless you have reason to believe you have given her more than the recommended doses, a couple of days' use of paracetemol should be fine. How old is she?

It does sound like she is unwell though - maybe she wasn't teething like you thought and there is something else wrong, which is giving these new symptoms? Go with your instinct - call your GP Smile.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 21/02/2011 15:32

For the past 2 nights she has had 10ml dose before she goes bed then another does at about 2am when she wakes up screaming.

This morning my DH gave her 10ml at about 7.30 then when I came down from my bath at about 9.45 my mum told me she had given her a dose. She didnt know she'd already had some.

I think the fact that she's had 20ml in just over 2 hours is too much. I would ring NHS direct and see what they say.

Incidentally, if 10ml of calpol isn't doing it, try neurofen. It seems to have a much better effect on teething with my DS as it's an anti-inflammatory.

Also instate a rule in your house that you are the only person to dose your DD, to avoid this kind of thing in future.

Jareth · 21/02/2011 15:37

10ml is the maximum correct dose for a child aged 1-6 years Poncey (I had to look it up though )

KirstyJC · 21/02/2011 15:38

If she has has a double dose this morning, I would call the on-call doctor or GP, especially if you are seeing unusual behaviour. Was it paracetemol both times, or a mix of paracetemol and ibroprofen - you can usually give both together without probs if you are within dosage for either one.

If you can't get hold of FP, perhaps try a pharmacist if that's possible - they can give advice on whether a GP is needed or not. Bottom line usually is that for under 2's you would err on the side of caution.

Hope she is feeling better soon.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 21/02/2011 15:38

Thanks everyone going to go upto the doctors with her. I dont blame my mum I should of told her before i had my bath that she had had medicine. Sad

Phone NHS direct.

They really helped me out when my DC2 helped herself to an open bottle Blush

MissAnthrope · 21/02/2011 15:39

10ml is too much for one dose at 14mths.

Dd (4yrs old) and 75th centile has 8ml every 6hrs as calculated for her weight (just as perspective).

Please take your dd to the GP to get her checked.

KirstyJC · 21/02/2011 15:39

If you can't get hold of GP, not FP - apologies for typo

AmazingBouncingFerret · 21/02/2011 15:40

that's a good idea kirsty, going to give my uncle a call before i go he is a pharmacist.

hope you get on ok and that she's feeling better soon :)

AmazingBouncingFerret · 21/02/2011 15:41

the dosage was correct just the amount of them im worried about!

Sirzy · 21/02/2011 15:48

10ml is fine for that age. DS has been prescribed that dose on numerous occasions since being 12 months. I only give that much when its really needed though, most of the time 5mls is fine.

TobyLerone · 21/02/2011 15:51

Ibuprofen can unsettle the stomach in some people. It could be that she's sensitive to that.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 21/02/2011 15:53

Ive managed to get her an appt for 6pm. She is OK at the moment eating doub choc chip cookies and drinking apple juice. She'll probably do the usual trick my children like to play upon arrivingat Dr's Surgerys/A&E and make a complete recovery!
