Sore neck folds - help!

ds (5 months) has got a very very red sore neck fold, well I think it looks sore but it doesn't seem to bother him! I am keeping it as clean as possible BUT it doesn't seem to get any better and I wondered if anyone has any tips for keeping it clean/clearing it up!

It is a bit stinky at times! that is a puke emoticon btw!

Sudocrem. A thin layer applied on the sore bit should help. If it still doesn't seem to improve take him to the GP- it might be a bit infected.

DD was a martyr to them till she started sitting up and moving around.

I must admit, I quite liked the smell and I miss it now. Am I weird?

Try to keep it as dry as possible. Give it a good rinse when he's in the bath and then dry thoroughly. Rub on a little Sudocrem if it looks sore. These bibs are great for stopping milk/dribble getting in there in the first place. They really helped my DS when he had a sore neck as a baby. Once I started using them, his neck cleared up really quickly. A rolled up muslin would also help during feeds if you didn't want the bibs.

DD had the most amazingly deep neck folds, and bad mother I am, I didn't properly discover them until at least a week after she was born, by which time they were red and raw looking and full of milk and fluff . Keeping them clean was a nightmare - I used to have to let her head flop right back and sideways to get in there. Sudocrem did help with keeping them peachy though. I used to call her my little turtle

Had this with dt2 only thing that works in a flare up is fusiden cream from doctors, and epederm 3 times a day.

Sudocrem is a wonder for this. Also deep, deep baths with an adult, so you can angle them and ideally get a second person to wash them out. Dry them as well as you can and put a smear of Sudocrem in there and voila.

Have a look under his arms too... DD used to store all sorts of cruft in there.

So sudocrem it is then, I shall look for mine somewhere as didn't use it with dd as it really dried her bottom out!

I know it isn't infected (I really hope!!) but it is a little bit shiny at times, getting him to get his neck up is a nightmare so will dunk him in a deep bath with dh (I would love to have a bath with him but I burnt still flabby baby belly on the iron and have a huge blister again a vom emoticon!)

Thanks guys, will keep looking for fluff and crusty bits - for the first month he didn't really want to unclench his fists and when he did it was always full of black fluff

skin folds are notorious for getting infected with yeast bugs. If it is curdy and cheesy smelling the GP may give the appropriate cream. They are available over the counter but probably have an age resriction

Figgy today I did DD's feet too, the bobbles of fluff in her toes are amazing!

Ooh, in that case will be checking out with the gp/nurse, having some injections this week so will double check, might try the sudocrem first as if that works and I have it then it won't be so much of a waste

Don't know if you are BF'ing or not, but boob juice works wonders. Squirt on a couple times of day and rub in.

Sorry that was meant to be not wasting specialist cream (as would hope that we wouldn't need the whole tube) if there is something I already have in my cupboard!

Because - boob juice I will try! It looks a tad like nappy rash which I expect it is fairly similar too. I really don't know how he gets it there - he isn't a pukey baby, he isn't too much of a milk dribbler and yet it is cheesy bleurgh growing there!

Would also add, when I clean it ds giggles so obviously it doesn't hurt him!

Lol Edgar! I must admit the only time I can get to dd's neck is when she is feeding so sometimes I lick my finger to remove the crustiness! Dd also manages to get cheesy pits - how? What with that and the constant farting it's like having a teenage boy!

Yep, the boob juice worked on my DD's cheesy neck and pits when she was small and suffered the same thing.

Oilatum is really good for babies sore skin. I remember finding that DS1 had a really sore neck when he was about 3 months old. I felt soooo guilty and neglectful.........anyhoo Oilatum sorted it out.

teenage boy - I hope mine smells better as a teenager - he is windy miller with cheesy/fishy smelling neck!

Neck i don't feel the love for at its whiffiest but i rather like the ebf baby poo smell

I sniff my nephew's bum because I like the smell of his poo. DD's are minging now that she's eating solids.

if its smelly it is infected and it is probably a thrush infection. you need to see doc to get canestan for thrush or fucidin for bacterial.

As far as poo goes, ebf baby poo is definitely the nicest if you have to smell some I guess :)

figgy....cheesy/fish sounds like yeast(thrush). it wont go without treatment. also you need to keep the aeas really dry ater bathing

Thanks guys, will book appointment for dr and get some canesten, am just off for another sniff now! (Have to admit that it was cheesy and whiffy after not having a proper bath for 2 days I am an appalling mother but he just had a couple of wipe downs)
