Sore neck folds - help!

ds (5 months) has got a very very red sore neck fold, well I think it looks sore but it doesn't seem to bother him! I am keeping it as clean as possible BUT it doesn't seem to get any better and I wondered if anyone has any tips for keeping it clean/clearing it up!

It is a bit stinky at times! Envy that is a puke emoticon btw!

DS (3 months at the time) had this.

His Dr prescribed Daktacort hydrocortisone cream (2% miconazole nitrate, 1% hydrocortisone; anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory), thin layer, 3x/day.

We used to sneak in when he was breastfeeding:
Clean with wet cotton wool.
Dry with dry cotton wool.
Apply thin layer of cream.

We'd do the same thing after a bath.

It cleared up after a week or so.

agree with tilde daktacort is also good if there is inflammation

Figgyrolls · 12/01/2011 13:25

Arghhhh just threw some daktacort away that I had (for dd) but which wasn't used (I vividly remember the chemist saying he didn't have a large tube so gave me 2 smaller ones to the same size and I never opened the second one Sad). I couldn't remember what I might use it for, I am sure for dd it was for excema which has since cleared up and ds doesn't have it! Bugger! Oh well probably best to see the dr anyway!

Figgy. A few wipe downs wont do any harm now and again, unless you really are a bad mum and stuff DS up chimneys!! Grin

YY to neck folds and fluffy hands/feet. When I bath DS (a much more regular occurrence than it was now we're weaning! Blush) we still get floaty fluffy bits from his toes.

Agree with the previous poster ref armpits. I thought I'd sorted DS thoroughly the other day then found another couple of folds hidden away and getting stinky. Got to love chubby babies Grin

AntonDuBurk · 12/01/2011 20:28

Oh, and agree re seeing Dr. No point treating with anything potent unless there is fungus/infection rather than good old fashioned stink!

ethelina · 12/01/2011 20:31

I thought I'd got the neck, armpits and behind the knees licked but I found bit in his wrist creases the other day Hmm

Figgyrolls · 13/01/2011 11:43

I have to admit to being very proud of the chub though! He has the occasional bottle of formula as he is super hungry but usually after he has had a full bf, anyway when he was born he was 5lb10 and super skinny little legs, now he is at least 15lbs (haven't had him officially weighed!!!) with folds, and cellulite, in just 5 months so would that be a 1lb every 2 weeks? As i say though am quite proud of that achievement!!!!

I am a bit confused. My daughter has sore neck folds but sudacream is keeping them moist not dry. Is that right? I have tried talc but it dries up her skin. Just want it to go as I feel so sorry for her :(

ethelina · 15/01/2011 19:06

Sudocrem contains lanolin and zinc, amongst other things, to heal and form a moisture-repellent barrier which keeps the natural moisture in and everything else out, stopping the area from chafing and becoming more sore. If the area becomes too dry, it becomes more irritated and sore, gets rubbed and gets worse. It becomes a viscious circle. The more hydrated from inside, the less sore and red it becomes and the skin heals again to form its own protective barrier.

Thank you so much for this post - I have exactly the same problem and have been v worried & feeling v neglectful! Good to know I'm bit alone with cheesy sore neck issues!

New to mumsnet - hello :-)

BathshebaDarkstone · 02/01/2015 06:10

Oh yes DS had this when he was tiny. Just try and keep it as clean and dry as possible. Xmas Smile

leeloo1 · 02/01/2015 06:38

Whilst you're at it, check out the leg folds for same cheesey stuff (I think its dead skin cells that aren't washed away). Dd had the chubbiest ever legs and I thought I'd found all her creases... but a cheesy smell wafting round during a more thorough stretch at baby massage suggested otherwise. Blush

mrsnec · 02/01/2015 06:54

Hi op, mine gets this too.

My pediatrician suggested a liquid talc. We use a linea bimbi one which is made with cornstarch and has camomile in it.

Also an antiseptic spray called octenisept. She said to alternate using each one at nappy changes for a couple of days. It does seem to shift it.

She also said cold camomile tea bags on the area too but we didn't try that.

If it's shiny it will be thrush. You need fucidin from GP.

Lagoonablue · 02/01/2015 08:11

Sorry Daktacort not Fucidin.
