Pale poo and strong-smelling wee - worried!

I'm not sure if there is an issue, but DD (2.5 years) lately has very pale coloured poo and her wee seems to smell strongly.

She seems to be drinking normally, so I don't think she's deyhdrated.

I've read a couple of threads about pale poo which may be linked to cows' milk, but DD doesn't consume any dairy products.

I don't think she has coeliac disease, and has in fact had a blood test for it in the past, which was negative.

She's not putting much weight on at the moment, but seems to be growing normally otherwise. She's on the tall side.

I don't know if it's related, but her complection is pale at the moment. She's also a bit behind on hair growth. It's short still and is still sprouting around the hairline. She's also very irritable lately, but I think that's because she needs an afternoon nap still, but refuses to take one.

I'd be grateful if anyone could offer any advice.

Thank you!

please take her in to A&E as suggested. Better to over react than underreact. GPs missed DH cancer 4 times and they delayed sending referals before, so think best bet would be to get her seen to asap

pastaplease · 18/12/2010 23:46

Oh, vinvinoveritas, I'm so sorry that you lost your DD. That's tragic. I'm very, very sorry.

Thank you for your replies everyone. I'm awaiting a call back from NHS Direct, as I'm hoping they will contact the out of hours GP at the hospital and hopefully we can get in asap and have the blood tests.

DD's certainly not well and I'm frantically worried now.

Thanks again for your replies. I'm so sorry about the awful things that have happened to your children.

Deffo get a wee sample - wetting self is usual for UTI's. They are horrid things. Knock you out totally. And I often get a UTI after a bout of tummy upset.

I am not stalking you honest Pasta - just hoping it's a minor blip and your little one will be ok soon.

pastaplease · 18/12/2010 23:53

Thanks Pancakeflipper. I'll do that.

I really appreciate your support. X

Did she get worse in the last couple of days? In that case I would just go straight to the hospital and not wait for NHS (unless you're sure they'll call you back quickly).

winnybella · 19/12/2010 10:16

How is she? Did you go to the hospital in the end? Hope everything's ok.

Yeah sounds like urine infection...awful things, made my ds sooo poorly they thought he had meningitis...let us know how she is.

pastaplease · 19/12/2010 15:30

Hi all. Thanks again for all of your posts.

We saw the out of hours GP at the hospital and then the paediatrician. He said we had nothing to worry about, but he took blood. We'll have the results by the end of the week.

He did say that there's the possibility of a kidney problem as there was a trace of blood in her urine sample and because her upper eye lids are puffy (they always have been).

Still worried, but nothing we can do until later in the week when we have the tests results back.

My ds has had traces of blood in urine before too....i was told this was normal when they have a virus or a urine infection. Am sure all will be ok and the results will be fine, dd will perk up and you'll have a lovely xmas xxx

pastaplease · 22/12/2010 16:47

Hi all,

Just in case anyone's still interested (sorry, this is days old now!) DD's blood test results all came back fine. Towards the bottom range re. iron, but not too near anaemic, which is a relief. I'll just increase her iron and vitamin C intake to be on the safe side.

We are still being refered to a consultant in the paediatric department and will have an appointment within a couple of months. This is to check a urine sample again to be sure that all's fine, and sign us off.

So, the doc said that there's nothing to be worried about.

I'm very, very grateful for everyone's advice and suport. I'm desperately sorry for the terrible situations that some people have been and are currently in. I couldn't begin to understand what it's been like for you. I am so appreciative of your advice and kindness. X

pasta I am so relieved to see your post. Grin well done for getting her seen. I am sorry if I overreacted but literally it was the same symptoms with my DD and I was just so worried, and maybe someone will search this in future and be informed of potentials.

I hope she gets better soon, and again sorry if I worried you, but I'm so happy Smile all the best xx

(it's vinvinoveritas btw)

pastaplease · 22/12/2010 21:17

Thanks very much, Vino. You genuinely are the most supportive person I've 'met' on Mumsnet. I really appreciate your posts. Yes, I hope very much that your advice will help someone else you. Thank you. X

CharlieBoo, thank you :). Have a wonderful Christmas. X
