DS1 has just announced he has had a shower because he was smelly. I was thinking it may be time for deodorant. He then says "I think I might have cancer."

He has a pain in his tummy, just above his penis, and for a while now can't always get to the loo in time to do a poo.

Is this saying GP GP GP to you?

He is 9.

sorry, that's not how it came across

you explained the situation and THEN said that your dh thought he was lazy..... i can only go on what you've said

thisisyesterday · 26/07/2010 20:38

so in the OP you said he was in pain, but now you say he ins't in pain?

tbh it's hard to give advice if you keep changing what the problem is.

i would push much harder for an appt. i believe they HAVE to offer an emergency slot if you request one

coventgarden · 26/07/2010 20:40

He isn't in pain now.

He was in pain the other day but nothing more than an ache from what he said.

I am sure I will get an appointment tomorrow am.

I haven't changed anything, I am just talking about 2 separate issues in my head.

It sounds like 'retention and overflow' as some others have said. He doesn't go, his 'elasticity' becomes inefficient, his storage capacity increases - a bit of liquid escapes... The GP is your first port of call, if that is the diagnosis you might need to try a few laxatives to find one which works. It isn't really a food issue - as in this case there is room to store it up. But a good diet will help long term, as will water, fruit juice, cereal etc. If this is what your son is doing, good luck with the next few weeks, it is a bit of a trial!

MrsGokWan · 26/07/2010 21:21

In our surgery we have a triage system. If you feel it is important then a nurse will ring you back and if they feel it is important then they give you an emergancy appointment with a nurse or Dr. Does your surgery have this sort of system?

coventgarden · 27/07/2010 08:56

The system seems to be different whenever I ring. Sometimes they just give me an appointment, other times I have to wait for the nurse to ring back. That is what happened today and I have an appointment for him at 10am. I explained why we were going and what would happen and he grinned and said "will I have my tummy cut open?" [hjmm] He is such a scientist and blood and gore my son.

How did things go?

coventgarden · 27/07/2010 12:41

I had to postpone the appointment as ds2 pushed the recorder ds1 was playing right in to his mouth and caused the gum to bleed. As it is ds1's adult teeth I phoned the dentist and they said to bring him straight down. The doctors is now on Thursday and ds1 is at my MIL's having some peace from his brother and sister.

Hope the teeth are OK too!

suitejudyblue · 27/07/2010 15:39

This sounds very similar to what happened to one of my DCs although at a younger age.

I found this really helpful and if you are able to see a pharmacist before Thursday and get some lactulose/liquid laxative you will probably be able to help your DS pretty quickly.
Good luck

coventgarden · 27/07/2010 17:10

Thank you for that sjb. That is really interesting and helpful. DS is at my MIL so will wait until I see the doctor on Thursday. DS is happy and not in pain.
