Sorry if this is the wrong place (or, indeed, thing) to post, but I'm after some advice. I'm perhaps best known as an author of slightly edgy/very edgy teenage novels, e.g. Hellbent, Henry Tumour and The Knife That Killed Me. Over the last couple of years I've also written 4 books for younger children, beginning with The Bare Bum Gang and The Football Face-Off. All 4 books are about the same group of children, and are aimed at 7-10 year olds. They are published by Random House, and got really nice reviews from all of the broadsheets. However, they haven't exactly set the world on fire, commercially, and I've been told it's because the titles, which all feature the dreaded words 'Bare bum Gang', have been putting people off. I've been told as a fact that book clubs won't have them because of the 'bum'. The books are really quite sweet, albeit rather rude, in a fart/poo kind of way. So, what do you reckon - should I ditch the bum, or keep on trying?
Regards
Anthony McGowan
(apologies again if this isn;'t the kind of thing that belongs here.)

Hey, Mistlethrush - that's incredibly kind of you to let me know, and I'm really grateful - and say thanks to your little boy from me as well!
I think this thread is about to be nuked by the mods, so i hope you get this ...
Very best
Tony

Catherine - is the actual reason this thread is being deleted because of the 'advertising'? Doesn't seem very likely ... Or is it that it was deemed unsuitable for some other reason? As has been pointed out, the urgency of deleting it seems a little unlikely, given the fact that it is ancient history, in net terms.
Anyway, been reading through it again, and I have to say that it genuinely enhanced my morning - it was a really enjoyable debate. So thanks again, spunky mumsnetters.

I think I might have been guilty of bringing it to the attention of MN towers Tony sorry Blush as I highlighted it to them suggesting that you might be interesting to invite along for a chat at some stage whether it be Q & A or what.... However, I hope its not going to go any way as it is still here......

Oh and I also should point out that its very refreshing to have a book that could be read by boys and girls alike - but which is in many ways ideal for boys. It certainly contained just the right down-to-earth humour for my ds.

I enjoyed the thread too, I missed it first time round - it isn't a classic one. I think if it wasn't spotted the first time round it should be allowed to stay, it is at worst a little stealth advertising, but mortalcoils paid for his cheek.
