Loving that website, MadBad. Am a slightly lapsed fan, ie, haven't read them for ages, but really should re-read.

DS has a touch of the Fotherington-Thomases about him occasionally - tends to skip rather a lot, and address inanimate objects.

JNHJABS - 'sfine. I confess it's a year at least since I re-read my disintegrating copy of How To Be Topp, but the longer I spend attending parents' evenings, the more I think of St Custard's!

I was inspired to start this thread by an interesting Ronald Searle connection on the Tom Lehrer thread. As I said there, my daughter is Nigel Molesworth reborn as a girl!

I know - your mention of it on the Tom Lehrer thread was how I knew to look for this thread. Your DD sounds fab.

And I always think of Molesworth when gerunds come up (which they do occasionally, as I'm an editor).

She is, she really is, but sometimes a little of the Fotherington-Thomases wouldn't go amiss!

jackie, i often tell people ds1 is a bit of fotherington thomas (recently spotted throwing petals into a stream singing "go! be free!") and nobody ever knows what i'm talking about... nice to know i'm not alone

I love Molesworth, it was one of the few books that I and all my brothers liked equally for bedtime stories.

I used to use moan drone chiz a lot, and talk about wizard wheezes, to most people's confusion, but have not done so for a while.

DH and I found St Custards when we were out walking a year or so ago - a really run down stately home that was being used as a school. Sadly it has closed down now so we can't send our dcs there
