Fans of the Curse of St Custards may wish to pause here.

Loving that website, MadBad. Am a slightly lapsed fan, ie, haven't read them for ages, but really should re-read.

DS has a touch of the Fotherington-Thomases about him occasionally - tends to skip rather a lot, and address inanimate objects.

MadBadandWieldingAnAxe · 22/10/2008 14:11

JNHJABS - 'sfine. I confess it's a year at least since I re-read my disintegrating copy of How To Be Topp, but the longer I spend attending parents' evenings, the more I think of St Custard's!

I was inspired to start this thread by an interesting Ronald Searle connection on the Tom Lehrer thread. As I said there, my daughter is Nigel Molesworth reborn as a girl!

I know - your mention of it on the Tom Lehrer thread was how I knew to look for this thread. Your DD sounds fab.

JackieNoHeadJustABloodyStump · 22/10/2008 14:21

And I always think of Molesworth when gerunds come up (which they do occasionally, as I'm an editor).

MadBadandWieldingAnAxe · 22/10/2008 14:22

She is, she really is, but sometimes a little of the Fotherington-Thomases wouldn't go amiss!

JNHJABS - How fond I am of the gerund, having taken A level Latin at St Trinian's.

Welcome all. Anyone acquainted with N Molesworth must be a grate brane and is no fule, chiz.

I'm trying out for the Mrs Joyful prize for rafia work...

MadBadandWieldingAnAxe · 22/10/2008 18:57

You'll be lucky! Where can one buy raffia nowadays? Or do you have a dealer?

jackie, i often tell people ds1 is a bit of fotherington thomas (recently spotted throwing petals into a stream singing "go! be free!") and nobody ever knows what i'm talking about... nice to know i'm not alone

hattyyellow · 22/10/2008 19:00

Hello birds, hello flowers, hello trees...

I love Molesworth, it was one of the few books that I and all my brothers liked equally for bedtime stories.

Hee hee!

My ds also has a touch of the Fotherington-Tomases ("Hello sprouts, Hello potatoes!")

I always think of these books when he does that!

constancereader · 22/10/2008 19:18

Hullo
I described someone as "uterly wet and a weed" the other day, to the obvious mystification of those present.....it's good to know I am not alone

MadBadandWieldingAnAxe · 22/10/2008 19:20

Molesworth

Pearson is in detention, as you will be if you persist in this ill-mannered and ungentlemanly language. Mr Sigismond has told me of your unruly behaviour this afternoon in mathematics. If there is any repetition I shall have to use the cane yet again.

I used to use moan drone chiz a lot, and talk about wizard wheezes, to most people's confusion, but have not done so for a while.

(I do still use "pot a wity" from Moominland though)

MorticiaAnnSpookington · 22/10/2008 21:42

DH and I found St Custards when we were out walking a year or so ago - a really run down stately home that was being used as a school. Sadly it has closed down now so we can't send our dcs there
