Isn't "Peepo" by the Ahlbergs just the loveliest book?

DD3 (20 months) absolutely loves this at the moment and has it as her bedtime story every night.

I don't mind because I adore it too

I love it don't mind reading it at all I love the illustrations too .

MrsBadger · 31/05/2008 13:52

I forced MIL to buy it for dd when she really wanted to get her a book of nursery rhymes

Sidge · 31/05/2008 13:54

I buy them Each Peach Pear Plum!! Another lovely Ahlberg book.

For older children I love The Jolly Postman, the writing is great and we love the little letters inserted into the envelope pages!

LL - snap with the daddy in a uniform, it really chokes me.

I also love Each Peach Pear Plum.

Blandmum · 31/05/2008 13:55

The house in it looks very like my Grandmother's. When I first read it when I got to the bit about the 'Rainbow rim' of the mirror I filled up with tears

Blandmum · 31/05/2008 13:56

and daddy in RAF blues. [sigh]

Sidge · 31/05/2008 13:57

LL - I love that, Daddy doing bathtime in his uniform then going off (I assume) to do a nightshift.

I really love the attention to detail in their books, the illustrations are beautiful and the prose just flows so easily.

It's a gorgeous, gorgeous book. I think there's something new to see every time you look at it.

Lizzylou · 31/05/2008 14:04

I love this one, both DS's love it too

hellish · 31/05/2008 14:07

Loved it too when my girls were littler. The illustrations are so lovely and it could make me cry too - I love the Grandma pegging washing.

PinkPussyCat · 31/05/2008 14:27

Aaaww I love this book, so does ds. He adores Each Peach Pear Plum though

What other books, if any, have the Ahlbergs done?

castille · 31/05/2008 14:37

Oh yes, it's gorgeous.

Our family is the same as theirs - 2 older girls and a little boy - so DS thinks they are us! RAF uniform and fringes on pushchairs notwithstanding

cmotdibbler · 31/05/2008 14:43

They did a whole series called Happy Families, and loads of others - theres a bibliography here.

I love Funny Bones and the Babys Catalogue too. Peepo is in the current downstairs box of books so we've been reading it a lot. Had forgotten how lovely it was.

LyraSilvertongue · 31/05/2008 14:45

Oooh, DS2 loves (or rather loved) Peepo. It was his favourite for years. It was his job to say Peepo at the end of each page. I loved reading it to him because it's so rhythmic.
He also adored his Baby's Catalogue and Each Peach Pear Plum, also by the Ahlbergs.

evenhope · 31/05/2008 14:46

I love this book. The pictures look just like my gran's house. I also cry (most of the way through it )

PinkPussyCat · 31/05/2008 14:52

Thanks cmotdibbler!

MrsBadger · 31/05/2008 15:11

they also did Burglar Bill - dh's all time favourite

edam · 31/05/2008 15:21

I adore Peepo. Occasionally manage to persuade ds to read it again (he's nearly five so considers himself too big, really). Each Peach is just as gorgeous. The illustrations are wonderful. I want to live in the Ahlberg's world!

Rosa · 31/05/2008 15:29

BOught for dd when she was 18 mths .Love it and gparents adore it and read it to her at every opportunity !

BellaBear · 31/05/2008 15:46

Burglar Bill - my sister's favourite - except it was called Burgular Bill in our house. Likewise Happily Families. [does everyone have made up names for things or just us?]

Did you know they did the baby catalogue because their daughter Jessica's favourite 'book' was some catalogue so they made one specially for her.
