Any hilarious books?

Trying to steer 8-year-old son away from Bunny vs Monkey which makes him HOWL with laughter. Would like that in a novel. He loves them but needs to work on his fiction prose, apparently.

Tried wimpy kid, treehouse stories, Ronald Dahl....

Any recommendations?

I'd recommend 'Michael The Amazing Mind Reading Sausage dog.' Very funny. Nice short chapters that make it an easy read. Spotted it because it was in the Blue Peter book club. There's also a sequel.

They're quite old-fashioned, but I love the Jennings books by Anthony Buckeridge.

My daughter used to like a series called "My Brothers Famous Bottom" by Jeremy Strong.
Dirty Bertie was another funny series (can't remember the author...)

The Angela Nicely books and the Dirty Bertie books, and my personal favourite is Penny Dreadful by Joanna Nadin. I have been known to weep with laughter reading the Russian dog story to my dc.

There are several books in the Penny Dreadful series, i bought ours second hand on abe books.

Mine loved Mr Gum. I wouldn't say hilarious but I always enjoyed reading them with them.

I agree with Jeremy Strong. The Hundred-Mile-an-Hour Dog and Pandemonium at School are ones I remember being very funny.

I love the fairy that hits him over the head with a saucepan. I agree they're not hilarious but very enjoyable.

My dad read Just William by Richmal Crompton to me at that age. I adored it. My dd loved it too. If you find it in a library worth a try!

I don’t particularly like David Walliams but his books are humorous and popular with children. Gangsta Granny was good.

Just take your boy to a bookshop with seating- a cafe and let him choose!

My Weird School" series by Dan Gutman These books feature a school full of eccentric teachers and students, and each story has a ton of goofy, laugh-out-loud moments. The humor is very much in the same spirit as Bunny vs. Monkey. Hope it can help you.

I don't recommend this one - my son got it as a gift, he said it was rubbish and having read a few pages he is not wrong.

Loki, Grimwood, The Bad Guys and Star Cat have been hits though (also Bunny Vs Monkey).

What about the Fudge series of book a by Judy Bloom? My son loved it at that age. I loved it at school when our class teacher read it to us. So funny, even now
