The Witches (Roald Dahl)
The Belfry Witches

I loved The Witch in the Cherry Tree by Margaret Mahy as a child but it was a bit more of a picture book.

I used to love the worst witch series! Not sure how it’s aged now though!

Worst Witch has aged well. There is a fairly recent CBBC programme made of it.

Still excellent!

Gobilino the witches cat.

There is a book called Which Witch by Eva Ibbotson that might appeal to boys but you would have to read it to him I would have thought. It's about a wizard who has to get married so he has to hold a competition to see which witch is best. There's a few male characters. I've read it to year twos and they loved it.

The current cover is awful...my copy is old.

CatherineCawoodsbestie · 06/08/2024 17:17

The Witches and the Grinnygrog.

ChocolateCroissantCafe · 06/08/2024 17:18

The Worst Witch has held up pretty well!

The Amelia Fang series is fun, some spooky stuff and a bit of silly humour. They have female main characters, but a mix of boy and girl characters throughout the stories.

SuperGinger · 06/08/2024 17:19

The worst witch and are you prepared to read Harry Potter aloud or listen to Stephen fry forever

Whatacarrion · 06/08/2024 17:23

She says in her OP that her dd already has the Worst Witch series.

Winnie the Witch has chapter books.
Witch storm. I seem to remember the main character is a boy.

musicalfrog · 06/08/2024 17:26

Your son can also read the Worst Witch of course.

Are they also interested in wizards? How about the Sword in the Stone?

SquashGnocci · 06/08/2024 17:28

When they're a bit older The Raging Quiet is an excellent book! Some of the content is a little... mature, I think the age guideline is 12. One for the future I loved it as a young teen!

Weatherwax · 06/08/2024 17:30

I loved this when I was young, you'd have to get a used copy though

Witches in Stitches (Puffin Books) amzn.eu/d/2w36XwH

I made my own versions of subsequent issues too. Happy days!

Weatherwax · 06/08/2024 17:31

And obviously Terry Pratchett in a couple of years time...!

MagicianMoth · 06/08/2024 17:31

The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe
Agree with Gobbolino and Which witch?
Carbonel - might be a bit old
I loved books about witches when I was little!

My seven year old loves isadora moon and the mirabelle series by Harriet Muncaster. Also loves Harry Potter but struggles to read it on her own.

arlequin · 11/08/2024 17:08

I absolutely loved Diana Wynne Jones as a kid

arlequin · 11/08/2024 17:09
