Need some advice .. our 9 yr old dd is complaining that a lot of her books are just not interesting her anyone but I'm
Completely stuck about what books to get.
She usually reads
Diary of a wimpy kid,
Harry Potter
Fairy books,
David Walliams books etc

Just lately she says these are a bit babyish and wants books that are more real life but I feel she's too young for teenage books .. she is quite grown up for her age so any recommendations would be appreciated 😊

Might have already been suggested by how about Famous Five by Enid Blyton?

Lots of primary schools have lists of recommended books online. I have used these for ideas in the past and usually find that the suggestions are quite challenging so they may appeal to your DD. I just googled Year 6 reading list pdf and loads came up!

I also think the Brightstorm Chronicles are a great read (but definitely not 'real life'). I recently used these with a class of Y5/6 who all enjoyed the books!!

I find myself facing the same problems of finding my child books that are educational, deals with confidence-boosting themes, and instills some adventure. What does everyone find challenging? What aspects are the most appealign and valuable? These are questions I ask myself and struggle to find children's book that hit any of these marks?

Empathy lab publish 'read for empathy' collections every year. Some great titles on there for all different ages. I think they're publishing a new list pretty soon too, worth a look!

Emma Carroll are great if she loves historical, 'The Extraordinary Adventures of Alice Tonks' has a touch of magic but is based in the real world, Lucy Strange's books are similar but historical-based, and Natasha Farrant novels are gorgeous!

My 9yo DD basically inhaled the A girl called Justice mystery books by Ellie Griffiths (The Ruth Galloway series author). Currently sourcing an outfit for world book day.

Shes moved on to the Who Let The Gods out series. and when she finishes that shes told me she want to read my agatha christie books. She enjoys a murder mystery and I was 10 when I started reading them. Plus it saves me buying new books for her.
