Ds2 is very interested in sewers and "where all the poo goes". Can anybody recommend a nice informative book for a 6yo?

Don't know about books, but what you really need is the poo episode of Come Outside - that'll tell him everything he wanted to know and more

OverRated · 29/01/2008 04:54

Can't help, I'm afraid but am interested on DS's behalf. He is fascinated

Agree with serenity - your can order them from the BBC, but they're about £16 though, IIRC. Maybe see if your library can get one in for you?

Do make sure you make it plain that it's not OK to pick up a bit of dog poo with loo paper and flush it down your own toilet before he watches it, though!

You can watch it in two parts on Youtube - look here

Taro Gomi's book Everybody Poos is quite fun, but does not go into detail of sewage handling, it is more on throughput and downloads
The Come Outside is predictably no-nonsense and excellent, as others say

ahundredtimes · 29/01/2008 10:14

I have found this one on plumbing

ahundredtimes · 29/01/2008 10:18

And a history of sewage for children

ahundredtimes · 29/01/2008 10:20

Toilets in history

ahundredtimes · 29/01/2008 10:25

Ahah.

Bingo.

This is the ONE

Is even the right age group.

I agree with serenity. My Ds's can give you great detail about what happens to the poo, all thanks to Aunty Mabel and Pippin.

TooTicky · 29/01/2008 14:24

Oooh, thanks everybody

100x, you seem worryingly well-informed

from a fictional perspective, Vesuvius Poovius is fab .

ahundredtimes · 29/01/2008 14:28

I just made an effort TooT. All for you. Just me and the Amazon search engine and a variety of scatalogical references.

bundle · 29/01/2008 14:33

bundle · 29/01/2008 14:34

does he like "come outisde" with aunty mabel?, there was an episode on POO once over, not nice during breakfast but very child friendly

moljam · 29/01/2008 16:11

that auntie mabel one was very informative!!!!

ROSEgarden · 29/01/2008 16:13

a bit TOO informative

indignatio · 29/01/2008 16:18

If you fancy a fun day out on a bank holiday do go to the "poo pumping station" (as we named it for ds) near Burton on Trent. It is an original victorian sewage works and is fascinating - even for someone (me) who doesn't really do poo and steam engines.

anniebear · 29/01/2008 20:05

Usborne do a "see under the ground2 Book, not sure if it has a page on that though lol

peachygirl · 29/01/2008 20:09

The come outside episode really is great. Aunty Mabal looks down a sewer after flushing one of Pippin's poos down the loo and says 'ooh look Pippin can you see your poo in there' Brilliant

I have just spotted this thread title and was going to recommend the Come Outside. Very fascinating - I learnt a lot myself from that one.
