Heartwarming (young) children's books

I am looking to buy some children's books for my 5 and 3 year old girls for a special occasion. I am going to write a message inside and I hope it will be something they keep for it's sentimental value. I would like books that we haven't got/don't know but it makes the choosing difficult so would really appreciate some recommendations.

Similar books I'm thinking of are things like Paper dolls, giraffes can't dance, guess how much I love you etc.

Thanks!

Dogger?

“Wherever you are, my love will find you” or “You’re here for a reason” by Nancy Tillman. They are beautifully written and illustrated.

You’re here for a reason, you certainly are. The world would be different without you by far.
If not for your eyes and your hands and your feet,
The world, like a puzzle, would be incomplete.

Ah I was going to suggest Paper Dolls! What about Owl Babies?

I’m being nosy now but are you by any chance an adopter with an anniversary or celebration hearing coming up? (I’m an adopter!)

Oh The Places You’ll Go? Not heartwarming exactly but a lovely book for a special occasion

Absolutesuperstar · 18/05/2022 20:11

Although there’s nowhere to actually write a message inside the book - I was going to do the same with my daughter’s copy but you’d end up writing over the text or an illustration.

Scarecrows Wedding by Julia Donaldson. So sweet, funny and light hearted but with a very poignant ending teaching a moral in a non judgemental way! We love it in our house!

BanditandBluey · 18/05/2022 20:30

We love What will you dream of tonight. Lovely gift book.

wishyouwerehere1 · 18/05/2022 20:30

Scarecrow's wedding would be very apt but we have it both book and yoto! As a side note I also read somewhere the bbc are going to be doing an adaptation this Christmas so I hope it's true!

I would love to see that lol. Reginald Rake is hilarious 😂 I always read his voice in a ridiculously cultured accent lol! Betty and Harry are Irish of course :)

The Night Dragon - it’s about being different from the other dragons and there’s a lovely line at the end about looking at colourful sunsets.
As pp have mentioned Oh the places you’ll go, paper dolls and dogger all lovely.
Another one- I think it’s called the lion inside. At the end a lovely line that goes something like no matter your size, we all have a mouse and a lion inside. It’s lovely.
If they like picking up ‘treasure’ on walks then definitely Star in the Jar - it’s about a little boy who looks for treasure and finds a star. I always say it’s my favourite because it reminds me of DD who is always picking up ‘litter bin treasure’.

Owl Babies to repeat several PPs because it's lovely!

Whatisaweekendzzz · 18/05/2022 20:45

Just thought of a couple of gorgeous massive hardback ones with beautiful illustrations- Tell me a dragon and the lost words.

wishyouwerehere1 · 18/05/2022 20:45

We also love the lion inside! And in the same series the koala who could- my youngest absolutely loves Kevin and has named several of her dolls after him Grin

I've chosen oh, the places you'll go! for my youngest and found a nice hardback copy on Amazon.

The Invisible String by Patrice Karst. My DS just got this out from the library and it’s such a lovely story about always being connected to those you love.

Here We Are by Oliver Jeffers. Such a lovely book with a message of earth being amazing, everyone being unique and life being precious.
