Bedtime books for baby

Hello.

I have a 4 month old DD and have recently started a bedtime routine with a story. She really enjoys this and I'm worried she's already getting bored of the few books we're doing on rotation. I'm looking for recommendations for bedtime books please. We have Babies in the snow/farm/wild/forest and On the night you were born so far.

Many thanks!

Goodnight Moon. We end every night with it.

Hi OP, Peepo (boardbook version) by the Ahlbergs was my DD1 ( now 2.5) favourite book when she was tiny , she also really loved it again when she was about 18months old and now again at 2.5! It's a brilliant wee book and I'm looking forward to reading it to DD2 (3 months!)

NannyR · 22/07/2020 19:56

Peepo by the Ahlbergs, Goodnight Moon, Each peach pear plum are three short, rhythmic books that are very popular with little ones.

BikeRunSki · 22/07/2020 19:57

Orange Pear Apple Bear
Monkey and Me

Both by Emily Gravett

Pluckedpencil · 22/07/2020 19:57

Second Peepo and Goodnight Moon! Night night baby Is nice too (Marie birkinshaw) for little babies.

ShipshapeShore · 22/07/2020 19:57

Guess How Much I Love You, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Peepo and We're Going on a Bear Hunt were favourites when mine were little. We had the board books so they could handle them as they got bigger.

RachelRosie · 22/07/2020 20:03

I was coming on to say Peepo too. Great minds! I personally love Snail and the Whale too. The rhythm I read it in always makes my DD drop off.

bakingdemon · 22/07/2020 20:13

You're more likely to get bored than she is! Another vote for all of the above, plus Together by Emma Dodd. Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See? is one I wish I'd started a bit younger. There's a lovely Janet and Allen Ahlberg picture book called The Babies Catalogue which has all sorts of things to point and look at.

Orangedaisy · 22/07/2020 20:17

Less high brow than the above, but my youngest refused anything other than the ‘that’s not my...’ books from about 8-12 months. She loved the big colours and feely bits, after that anything with flaps was a hit.

They have also enjoyed Pip and Posy, any Julia Donaldson, Alfie and Hairy Mcclary- but most after about 18 months.

Orangedaisy · 22/07/2020 20:20

Tales from Acorn wood books by Julia Donaldson were very popular too and more suitable for younger ones than gruffalo etc.

shellby28 · 22/07/2020 20:32

I have a 4 month old DD too, she nods of fairly quickly to the tiger who came to tea and the lorax - although Dr Seuss is quite a hard read out loud!

passthegin1234 · 22/07/2020 20:41

We have a lovely book called 'Ten Little Night Stars' which my mum bought. It has a nice rhyme scheme and interesting pictures.

SamSeabornforPresident · 22/07/2020 20:44

Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes is lovely. Another vote for Goodnight Moon and Each Peach Pear Plum.

Almost anything from Julia Donaldson for when they're a wee bit older.

LaTomatina · 22/07/2020 20:45

I Took The Moon For A Walk

Toddle Waddle

Hairy Maclary

NutterPotter · 22/07/2020 20:48

We have peace at last ( did have 5 minutes peace as well but he peed all over it) anything by Julia Donaldson, fleabag, ten little fingers ten little toes cant think of the others at the moment

Fancyateapottea · 22/07/2020 20:48

I recommend each peach pear plum and snug as a bug. The Julia Donaldson ones are great too but maybe a bit long for now.

rottiemum88 · 22/07/2020 20:49

We do Day Monkey Night Monkey by Julia Donaldson, seems to work for DS

ToyKitchenSink · 22/07/2020 20:51

Each peach pear plum and peepo as already recommended. Dear zoo is fab as well. I buy these 3 books as newborn baby gifts and they're always a hit.

TheBabyAteMyBrain · 22/07/2020 21:28

Anything by Shirley Hughes, Julia Donaldson, Eric Carle and Lynley Dodd. Lovely rhyming language and lovely pictures. Shirley Hughes has a wonderful book of short poems.

BakewellGin1 · 22/07/2020 21:37

DS loves his In the Night Garden books - bizzarely the Christmas one is his favourite (he is 16 months)

We do however have Each Peach Pear Plum, Bear Hunt, Ten Little Night Stars, Guess How Much I Love You, I Love You to the Moon and Back, Dear Zoo, Gruffalo, Spot etc

LittleCabbage · 22/07/2020 21:43

Peepo is my all time favourite! Love the house with its 1930s-1940s stuff, and the rhythm of the story.

Also love The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Hippos Go Beserk, No Bed Without Ted, We're Going on a Bearhunt, Wow said the Owl and TipTap went the Crab.

NannyR · 22/07/2020 21:44

I wouldn't worry about her being bored - it's a lovely, reassuring part of the bedtime routine to have the same story as a cue for bedtime, when toddlers are old enough to choose their own bedtime story they often choose the same books time after time.
