what novels for a 9 year old who loves animals?

my 9 year old only likes books that feature animals + adventures. So she loved Podkin One-year and all the Narnia books. What else is there of that type?

anything among modern books? when I look in the shops (Amazon these days), there are masses of magic/fantasy books and a fair number of 'real kids in schools' books but not many good animal stories.

Leopard adventure is the first in a series of four by Anthony McGowan. They are follow ups to the amazing Willard Price books I used to adore as a child.

Has she read all of those first 4 suggestions? If so, what did she make of Animal Farm? My 10 year old has read 3 of them, but not Animal Farm - I wasn’t sure if he was mature yet enough to appreciate the book’s message.
Does she only like mammals or does she also appreciate invertebrates? If so, she might appreciate the Beetle Boy series.

The Animals of Farthing Wood by Colin Dann. Dann also wrote many other children’s books with animals as the protagonist.

Along the same lines is the Warrior series by Erin Hunter. All cats no humans!

Warriors gets another vote here. I can't get dd to put them down. She's read all day every day but sometimes she has to do things like eat and shower.

The Alex Sparrow books by Jennifer Killick might also suit if she’d enjoy kids plus animals plus adventures, with a healthy dose of silly humour.

Oh and the sheep pig by Dick King Smith. He wrote more books about animals so worth looking them up. She might also enjoy James Herriot's books
