Hey, I want to buy some books for my baby now she's turned 1 and taking a keen interest in some already. What are the best books for this age range? I've got 'tiger came for tea' 'hungry caterpillar' and 'going on a bear hunt' any more suggestions thanks

The ‘that’s not my . . , ‘ range or any Julia Donaldson.

Cathpot · 11/05/2019 21:42

‘You choose’ is a good one for general pointing at stuff for hours and Dear zoo is a classic. We also liked ‘don't let the pigeon drive the bus’ possibly for slightly older.

MrsS92 · 11/05/2019 21:42

My daughter liked the “that’s not my “ range at one, as it had lots of different textures to feel and explore.
We also loved Goodnight Moon, and We’re going on a bear hunt. She loved Brown Bear when she was slightly older, it was fantastic for encouraging her to join in as it’s so repetitive!
Trying to think of some others, my daughters room is like a mini library she has so many books.

TheRealHousewifeofCheshire · 11/05/2019 21:44

Julia Donaldson Foxes Socks, Postman Bear, Rabbits Nap.

Touch and Feel books I had an under the sea one that was a my first... book. Mine Loved it. Lift the flap books.

Was in Waterstones today and the selection for that age group.is beautiful. Take her with you. They usually have little places to sit in the children s bit and see what she is drawn to or go to your library and do the same x

Peepo is great.

katienana · 11/05/2019 21:51

Peepo by Janet & Alan ahlberg. Each Peach Pear Plum too. Get a big book of nursery rhymes.
We were given this book HarperCollins Treasury of Picture Book Classics: A Child's First Collection www.amazon.co.uk/dp/0060080949/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_zuZ1CbAF1RTMR?tag=mumsnetforu03-21
Which has several brilliant stories in, all different, which might inspire you to look for more by the same author.

IamChipmunk · 11/05/2019 21:58

The acorn wood books were loved by both mine, foxes socks, rabbits nap etc.
Also the hairy maclairy books.

GMtoBe · 11/05/2019 21:59

My daughter loves a walker book called 'hooray for harry' which is lovely. Also guess how much I love you, going on a bear hunt and the magic porridge pot.

GMtoBe · 11/05/2019 22:01

Forgot to say, she likes the Alfie books too. The pictures have lots to look at. Also the large family, which I like because the stories are aimed at the parents really!

Modestandatinybitsexy · 11/05/2019 22:02

Where's mr unicorn? Has lovely felt flaps and a mirror.

10 little dinosaur/pirates/monster

I'd recommend board book versions where possible. My 1yr old had a shelf he could reach and loved picking his own for us to read. The above are some of his favourites.

We also love reading dr Seuss and The Way Home for Wolf

moreismore · 11/05/2019 22:04

Orange Pear Apple Bear board book

We Love Each Other board book

junebirthdaygirl · 11/05/2019 22:13

Those Spot books with lift the flap. They never fail to get excited about what's behind the flap.

User11011 · 11/05/2019 22:14

Meg and Mog, all Julia Donaldson, all Acorn Wood. Peace at Last was our favourite when ours was that age. Dear Zoo, Where's Bear?

PinotAndPlaydough · 11/05/2019 22:14

Paper dolls is a beautiful book

Tolleshunt · 11/05/2019 22:16

Dear zoo etc are great for this age, and you can use them to help with learning to tak, by e.g. waiting for them to finish the sentence (the last sentence on each page is always repetitive).

Judith Kerr's Mog books have been a great favourite if my DD. They are both funny and charming.

Also the Meg, Mog and Owl books are simpler and also funny

The Maisie Mouse books are also great for this age.

Timide · 11/05/2019 22:17

Where is Spot? The most favourite book!

junebirthdaygirl · 11/05/2019 22:17

All the Spot ones are on Book People.

Tinyteatime · 11/05/2019 22:18

Dear zoo, peepo, each peach pear plum. Any of the spot the dog books.

Tinyteatime · 11/05/2019 22:18

Sorry x posted!

HeartvsHead · 11/05/2019 22:20

Hairy McClary from Donaldson's Dairy is a great book! There is a whole range of books following all the different characters. My little one has just turned two and can recite most of it by heart!

Dear Zoo is also awesome.

meow1989 · 11/05/2019 22:27

I love "guess how much I love you".

Ds is 10 months and really enjoys "wheres mr duck?" Where you can lift the flaps. He also likes books worh buttons that play tunes and the "that's not my" books.

candlefloozy · 11/05/2019 22:39

Oh dear and noisy farm are good

Cherylshaw · 11/05/2019 22:40

My little boy loved Horton hears a who, he loved the rhyming and the mad voices I made when reading!
