When DD (now 6) was younger I could never finish The Paper Dolls without shedding a tear.

Tonight, we’be just finished the Sophie series (Dick King-Smith). The last 2 or 3 chapters had me crying my eyes out. DD was Hmm “but Mummy, it’s only a book’”.

Cried reading it to my baby Blush

It could be. I've googled and some of it sounds familiar. I'm going to have to go look and see if I still have it. That always made me cry.
Harry Potter makes me cry when dumbledore and dobby dies.
The suitcase kid by Jacqueline Wilson does too

Lots of the longer books already mentioned - and The Heart and The Bottle and Tabby McTat.

Picture books shouldn’t make you cry.

When You Were Born makes me teary, I wanted my DS so desperately and still can't quite believe we finally got him.

Agree with previous posters about Goodbye Mog, so sad. Dogger is a rollercoaster of emotions but I've read it so many times now I'm immune.

I love you little Monster. I must have read it dozens of times but I still year up every time.

I came on to say ‘Paper Dolls’ but you lot have managed to list a whole other list of books I’d forgotten about.

Goodnight Mr Tom, Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe, No Matter What, A Monster Calls, Charlotte’s Webb

I don’t think anyone’s mentioned Chinese Cinderella yet.

This just makes me want to read them all! They must have been good to make you cry and remember them

We love Library Lion too.

I was sure I’d be able to read the Railway Children to the DCs. I know the scene off by heart after all so can probably power through it, I thought. OMG. The children thought I had lost my mind. In the book, after those words it doesn’t stop. The author carries on piling on the emotion until you just can’t take any more Sad

There was a book from my childhood that traumatised me! It was like Black Beauty but not that. It was about a horse in war times and going through No Mans Land and I think the horse died but my memory is hazy! Wish I could remember what it was called.

Dogger gets a vote from me too.

Oh I had forgetten about Once their were Giants! Paper Dolls gets me every time. We love Mog, I’m avoiding the one where Mog dies, I don’t think I will be able to cope with that.

I love the film Railway Children but don't think I ever read the book? Isn't it one of those really old fashioned style writing ones though (if you know what I mean?)

Not read Mog dying although we've got the rest. Pretty sure I'd cry at that one!

Oh and The Snowman and Snowman and the Snow Dog.
The Patchwork Cat always made me cry as a child too - not read it for years but suspect it still would. My mum refused to read it too me in the end.
