When DD (now 6) was younger I could never finish The Paper Dolls without shedding a tear.

Tonight, we’be just finished the Sophie series (Dick King-Smith). The last 2 or 3 chapters had me crying my eyes out. DD was Hmm “but Mummy, it’s only a book’”.

The Paper Dolls 😭😭😭

ThisToo · 18/03/2018 20:59

Goodbye Mog. We borrowed it from the library. I had no idea what I was in for!

coffeerequired · 18/03/2018 21:00

Anything by Nancy Tillman!

Lobsterquadrille2 · 18/03/2018 21:00

The Baby Who Wouldn't Go To Bed. The ending part - no idea why but it always choked me up.

I feel ridiculous saying this but I always well up at 'Giraffes Can't Dance.' I just adore Gerald. It's the last page that gets me - "Then he raised his head and looked up at the moon and stars above. "We all can dance," he said, "when we find music that we love." Smile

Also, Guess How Much I Love You.

AnneOfCleavage · 18/03/2018 21:03

The Velveteen Rabbit has me gulping then proper snotty tears.
Little Match Girl also gets me so choked up and tearful.

I swear DD used to choose those books as she was intrigued by me crying.

Now we are into Call the Midwife shuck has me in tears EVERY single week and leaves DD so bemused. Grin

puddinggalore · 18/03/2018 21:03

Good night mog here too. Its been a few years since I've read it but I choked up just the other day when telling a friend how emotional it had made me!

Also 10 little fingers, the last little baby line at the end.

hairycoo · 18/03/2018 21:03

Goodbye mog, had me and ds in tears. Dh is a cold hearted fucker tho and didnt have as much as a misty eye. Totally judged him for that one.

yorkshireyummymummy · 18/03/2018 21:03

The railway Children
A little Princess
The velveteen rabbit.
Harry Potter - where Sirius and Dobby die.

I’m sure there’s more but I’m off to buy “ I’ll love you forever “ as it sounds wonderful!

Gertrudethestag · 18/03/2018 21:04

Odd Dog Out made me cry at Christmas. I havent been brave enough to read it since. Blush

I am probably the only one to cry at such a funky book though!

yorkshireyummymummy · 18/03/2018 21:06

Oh , and Charlie and the chocolate factory when Charlie Bucket finds the money and buys a first bar that he just stuffs down because he is starving to death then he decides on a second bar as he is still so hungry and at that point his whole life changes with the flash of a golden ticket!

PastaSauceHoarder · 18/03/2018 21:06

Not sure if anyone knows of Baggy Brown by Nick Inkpen - the last page with Prince Jack just makes me well up every single time! I'm always a soppy mess when it comes to babies and love stories and this one is so bloody sweet.

crookedhooker · 18/03/2018 21:07

Goodbye Mog
Charlottes Web
Snowdog. Almost traumatised the boy with that one as his Christmas Eve book. He still talks about how upset he was years later.

purpleme12 · 18/03/2018 21:07

Paper Dolls has made me cry before. My little girl (4) just doesn't get it of course!

When I was little and my mum was still reading to me before bed I still remember her reading Red Sky in the Morning by Elizabeth Laird. She cried while she was reading it to me. It was really sad but such a good book. I'd recommend it. (For 9-11 year olds apparently if anyone's interested)

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 18/03/2018 21:08

I cried for about a week after finishing His Dark Materials.

Taffeta · 18/03/2018 21:09

The Apple Pip Princess
The Happy Prince
Wonder

Taffeta · 18/03/2018 21:11

Oh god how could I forget????

The Velveteen Rabbit

Oh my Lord.

MedicalEnigma · 18/03/2018 21:11

Goodnight Mr Tom has me blubbing in at least 4 places. So beautifully written and believable.

PastaSauceHoarder · 18/03/2018 21:13

My little one was given The Velveteen Rabbit for Christmas but I haven't dared read it to her yet!

Belindabauer · 18/03/2018 21:13

The velveteen rabbit.
Guess how much I love you
The diddakoi.

MedusaBadHairDay · 18/03/2018 21:14

Black Beauty and Watership Down Sad

HeartShapedFox · 18/03/2018 21:15

Dogger, when the sister "did a very kind thing" and swaps her massive teddy for Dogger.... blub.
And Stick Man, the last page.... poor little guy has been through so much. Makes me cry less now that I've read it about 1000 times to the 3 year old though!

LockedOutOfMN · 18/03/2018 21:15

Goodnight Mr. Tom

SleepFreeZone · 18/03/2018 21:17

First book i thought of was Paper Dolls. I read that to my son just after my third miscarriage and cried my eyes out.
