Boarding School type stories for dd

Catterpillardaddy · 07/08/2017 14:30

DD (8) has finished reading Malory Tower, The Naughtiest Girl and St Clare's as well as The L'Etoile series.

She is really into the whole boarding school story setting.

Can anyone recommend any other good reads, which take place at BS?

Oh She has read the first 4 Harry Potter stories too.

Any recommendations would be great!
Thanks

I loved the Chrestomanci books!

"Heidi Grows Up" (sequel to "Heidi") is partially set in boarding school too

Have a loot at Girls gone By publishing for reissues of Chalet School and more. Only hardback, so a bit ££, but very lovely. store-yhs6hqw.mybigcommerce.com

Chalet School!

Catterpillardaddy · 07/08/2017 20:37

"Yes Trebizon! I loved this.." I hadn't realised that the last one in the Naughtiest Girl series was written by Anne Digby's. Trebizon Collection's a definite yes from dd!

Nothing dire about Antonia Forest Wink

Chrestomanci series is fabulous, still live as adult, but AFAIK none of them are set in a boarding school...?

timshortfforthalia · 07/08/2017 20:46

Dandelion, do you mean the Lorna Hill ballet books? I loved them, must dig out a set for dd. They always stayed in lodgings with kindly middle aged landladies near the school.

KatherinaMinola · 07/08/2017 20:47

Bookpeople have a set of Trebizon as well as a set of Worst Witch at the moment. Trebizon is very good and WW (Jill Murphy of Peace at Last, Large Family etc fame) is a classic.

Antonia Forest best appreciated at 12+ I think,

Catterpillardaddy · 07/08/2017 20:52

"Antonia Forest best appreciated at 12+ I think,"
Yes, they seem suitable for 10/11/12 yrs+ going by the descriptions on BookPeople

Loved Lorna Hill, but I don't think any of the characters board at the school - was it written pre-White Lodge?

AntiHop · 07/08/2017 20:59

Charlotte sometimes is such a beautiful book.

AYoungForeignBrit · 07/08/2017 21:01

I love the Gallagher girls' school series by Ally Carter. Set in a private girls' school for spies and there are 6 books in the series

Toomanycats99 · 07/08/2017 21:12

I think I remember reading my mums copies of the Lorna hill books. Might have to get them out. I also have a few chalet school ones I picked up in a charity shop.

Catterpillardaddy · 07/08/2017 21:20

"Charlotte sometimes is such a beautiful book."
Would you say that this is for slightly older readers, maybe 10+? DD is 8 so some of this would probably go above her head at the moment.

"Set in a private girls' school for spies and there are 6 books in the series" that sounds perfect too, dd loves playing detectives and spies.

You children's book lot are very helpful and active indeed! Thanks again!

What Katy did at School - the best of the trilogy IMO.

DandelionAndBedrock · 07/08/2017 21:29

Oh - my mistake. It was the Lorna Hill ones. I must be muddling them with something in my head. Still great books though!

GU24Mum · 07/08/2017 23:17

I've just given my daughter my old Jill's pony school books. Not boarding school but similar ilk.

LittleMissMankyPants · 07/08/2017 23:21

How about Pippi Long Stocking for a slight change of theme? No BS but Pippi is an 8yo daughter of a famous pirate who lives on her own whilst her Dad is at sea.

Witchend · 08/08/2017 13:05

Witch Week is the Chrestomanci one set in a boarding school.

BlueChampagne · 08/08/2017 13:11

A Little Princess?
The Jennings series?

She might find Worst Witch a little young, or she might be grateful to canter through some easier stories over the holidays. Less dark than HP and set in a girls' school.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 09/08/2017 19:42

I work in a boarding school, I have millions of stories! This thread makes me think I should put them down on paper!

KenDoddsDadsDog · 09/08/2017 19:45

I loved Trebizon !

nonicknameseemsavailable · 09/08/2017 21:05

I loved the Chalet School books - I bought loads from an old bookstore near my school when I was in 6th form but somehow in all the books my parents kept for me one box is missing, must have gone out by mistake when they were clearing their loft before they moved and I only seem to have one Chalet School book which I am so upset about. they were all battered and falling apart but I loved them. No idea how many times I read The Chalet School in Exile. I remember Circle in the Sand was on the radio at one point when I was reading about them fleeing through the mountains. Still in my mind all these years later. anyway I digress.

Charlotte Sometimes was another favourite of mine definitely get hold of that one.

I found one the other day in my pile I got out of the loft for my kids but I can't remember what it was. it said it was set in a boarding school.I don't remember it at all, must have been my sisters. If I can locate it I will tell you what it was called.

TwinsPlusAnotherTwo · 12/08/2017 23:24

Definitely Trebizon! I loved these as a child, and my DD is devouring them. She also loved Worst Witch when slightly younger, and the EB boarding school stories. She can't get into DWJ books though...

annandale · 12/08/2017 23:30

At least, modern boarding school stories could do really well imo.
