My daughter loves reading adventure stories. She has enjoyed all the How to train your dragon series, A series of unfortunate events, Alex Ryder, Ottoline, and some beast quest. Can anyone recommend some other adventure stories with a female protagonist? Thanks!

If she's fairly mature she might like moondial. It's sort of a ghost story but it's got a gutsy female lead. Maybe read it before her to see if you think she will be OK with it

The Dreamsnatcher by Abi Elphinstone
The Wolf Wilder by Katherine Rundell

The Goth girl stories, also by Chris Riddell?

www.amightygirl.com
This website has loads of really great book suggestions for girls and grown ups too. We discovered lots of really good books that we'd never heard of before.

Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones that's more fantasy.

Dealing with Dragons by Patricia C. Wrede.

Alice in Wonderland/Alice Through the Looking Glass

The BFG

Those are the ones I loved at that age except for Howl which I wasn't introduced to until university.

Sophie and the Shadow Woods series.

rocket74 · 04/06/2016 22:57

The Various trilogy by Stephen Augaerde - or something like that, my SD loved them when about that age.

SavoyCabbage · 04/06/2016 23:00

The girl who circumnavigated fairyland in a ship of her own making.

PigeonPie · 04/06/2016 23:01

Charlotte's Web

The Nellie the Monster Sitter series by Kes Gray (the later ones may be a bit 'old' for her), but my DS1 enjoyed them at her age.

Tuiles · 04/06/2016 23:05

Most Eva Ibbotson stories have a female protagonist. My DD especially liked 'The Dragonfly Pool' and 'Journey to the River Sea'

christmasmum · 04/06/2016 23:12

My daughter and some of her friends absolutely love Lari Don's Fabled Beasts series of books - they're sort of mythical creatures mixed in with a modern female lead. She was really hooked and has read them several times over.

PinkFluffiUnicorn · 04/06/2016 23:33

My daughter loved Rose & Lili books by Holly Webb, magical, ghosts, mystery & orphanage.

HopeClearwater · 04/06/2016 23:37

I know it's not fantasy, but the Wells & Wong murder stories are really good. Great protagonists. I think one of them is called First Class Murder.

PopGoesTheWeaz · 05/06/2016 21:30

Pippi longstocking? The author has a few others as well the DS enjoyed (Ronan the robbers daughter I think was one?)

PopGoesTheWeaz · 05/06/2016 21:32

And she may be a little young still but his dark materials if amazing. Pullman also has a bunch of victorian detective novels with a female lead.

I also read Tangewreck by Jeanette Wintereson, but again, she might need to wait a few years for it

Song of the Lionness series by Tamora Pierce. I still return to them from time to time after reading them as a child. www.google.co.uk/search?q=song+of+the+lioness&sa=X&biw=320&bih=460&tbs=vw:l&tbm=shop&prmd=sivn&srpd=5595277274555206217&prds=epd:4562331783045953961,paur:ClkAsKraXydep9DuMCQX9NxB3g-k5QkNXUhCeQZRZwR-FTBW8qmIj_QhIe2dn1vNgPcOvuVpMI40x34Shq5OT-RTt5IPj-IF59NoTLg_Hyn-SDHSU_3JosfTfBIZAFPVH71RJ2IwxVcTOpnkAmVWpLCdhwLodA,cdl:1,cid:6514904505112487807&ved=0ahUKEwiY3pzH3ZHNAhXLKMAKHc7jBFAQgTYInAMwAA&ei=PYxUV9jLJcvRgAbOx5OABQ

Narnia?
The Merlin Conspiracy by Diana Wynne Jones - several of her books have two protagonists, boy and girl.
Nancy Drew or Trixie Belden?

Tiffany Aching books by Terry Pratchett?

I think Eva Ibbotson's stories are fab! Especially Which Witch, I read that for the first time when I was eight or so.
Another great series which came out quite recently are the Calpurnia Tate books. There are two at the moment but I think a third is due to be punished soon.

PigeonPie · 05/06/2016 22:45

Ooh, and I enjoyed Jill Murphy's Worst Witch series when I was that age.

BlueChampagne · 06/06/2016 12:44

You could try the Slightly Jones mystery series, or Wings & Co Fairy Detective Agency series.

Cathpot · 06/06/2016 12:52

Enchanted forest chronicles which includes 'dealing with dragons' mentioned earlier- main character a princess who doesn't want all the princess blaa and goes off to live with dragons.

Murder most unlady like/ arsenic for tea/ jolly foul play/ first class murder ( main characters two girls solving cases )

mrsmortis · 06/06/2016 15:11

The Circle of Magic books by Tamora Peirce (Not the Lioness ones unless you are happy with references to sex)

Inkheart by Cornelia Funke

Sabriel by Garth Nix

mrsmortis · 06/06/2016 15:12

Oh and 'A wrinkle in time' by Madeline L'Engle

WhattodoSue · 06/06/2016 23:39

Agree NOT song of lioness - very much YA.
