I need a list of very popular/famous children's books that have equally well-known (and distinctive) pictures, for a project I'm working on, and I'm stuck!
So far I have:
Winnie the Pooh
The Tiger Who Came To Tea
Room on the Broom
Elmer the Elephant

There must be more, can anyone think of any? Much appreciated Grin

Brambly Hedge
Any Beatrix Potter

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 22/10/2015 16:22

For a bit older children, but I bet most people would recognise the Tenniel illustrations for Alice in Wonderland.

RiverTam · 22/10/2015 16:22

Alfie stories (Shirley Hughes)
Meg and Mog
Angelina ballerina
We're going in a bear hunt
Peepo

I'm sure I'll think of some more...!

Wind in the Willows
Brambley Hedge

Roald Dahl plus Quentin Blake illustrations

Dachshund · 22/10/2015 16:26

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 22/10/2015 16:27

Some aren't obvious per book so much, but as a set - like Quentin Blake and Roald Dahl.

Definitely Quentin Blake.

Oliver Jeffers' style is quite distinctive, but I'm not sure how well known as pictures.

HarrietVane99 · 22/10/2015 17:18

Arthur Ransome
Ballet Shoes with Ruth Gervis' s illustrations (she was Noel Streatfeild' s sister)
For me, E. Nesbit's books are just not right without the original illustrations, but they might not be well known enough for your purposes.

PigeonPie · 22/10/2015 17:28

Wind in the Willows with the EH Shepard (who also did Winnie the Pooh) illustrations.

Sgtmajormummy · 22/10/2015 17:48

Paddington's original illustrations are very evocative and quite intriguing until you read the story.
I love the coloured pencil drawings by Raymond Briggs (The Snowman etc).

BoneyBackJefferson · 22/10/2015 17:51

Brer Rabbit

Sgtmajormummy · 22/10/2015 17:52

And what about all the Mr.Men books by Roger Hargreaves? So simple but you can tell which ones weren't drawn by him.
