Spring is in the air – our noses are a-twitch, our tails a-quiver – and to celebrate, the Peter Rabbit Club are giving one lucky Mumsnetter a fabulous Peter Rabbit book bundle! What’s more, ten runners-up will receive a copy of Peter Rabbit’s Hop To It! sticker book, packed with stickers and fun activities to keep little bunnies busy this Easter.

For a chance to win these goodies, tell us how you enjoyed the spring air when you were but a wee bunny yourself. We particularly want to hear about the classic outdoor games you used to play. Hopscotch anyone?

To enter the competition, just post your top outdoor games on this thread and we’ll pick our favourites. This competition is sponsored by the Peter Rabbit Club.

My absolute favourite was always climbing trees. Trees could be anything spaceships, houses and they all had to be climbed differently depending on the difficulty level and the abilities of fellow climbers. I even used to climb them by myself at the end of a day. Very therapeutic.

we used to pretend we were riding horses - everywhere

We were never in the house as kids - if we weren't building dens or treehouses we were off playing hopscotch or rounders. Plus there were many scrapes on roller boots

Pom.
Although I haven't come accross many other people who actually called it that.

So, it's hide and seek: the person who is 'it' counts (to 100) at the lamp-post. Then sets off to look for the hiders.
When you find one you race them to the pomming post and you have to touch the post to shout "pom 1 2 3 Helen" (or whoever you found). Or they might pom themselves in first.
You can also come out of hiding any time and try and sneak up to the post to shout "pom 1 2 3 myself".
So while your searching you've got to keep an eye on the pomming post and the area around it.

I loved going everywhere on my bike :)

Gill81uk · 19/04/2015 22:12

I loved roller skating and going out on my bike. We also loved playing imaginary games under big trees.

Me and my brother used to make rope swings in the woods and tie a jump rope to a tree and swing it round for each each other to jump over. We also used to have great fun (and accidents!) charging around with each other in the wheel barrow! We ALWAYS used to be outside doing something . . . collecting empty bird eggs shells, making a den, climbing trees!

Bull dog, hopscotch, skipping games and ehat is the time mr wolf. Lots of mini bike adventures on a raleigh bianca. Happy days!

The game we always played in spring but at no other time was whip and top, which was played around Easter. Some kids had string whips with knots tied in, others had leather. There were wide, squat tops or taller, narrow ones, and we chalked patterns on them. The school playground used to be full of children whipping away at their tops for all they were worth - certainly wouldn't be allowed now!

We also played lots of hopscotch, skipping games, French skipping, cat's cradle, Simon says..., Jacob's ladder

The girls always had a variety of singing/clapping/dancing games like "I'm Shirley Temple, the girl with curly hair" and a few others that I've forgotten, but I remember that we performed them with great gusto!

I could spend a whole summer playing Hopscotch. I also played a game where you each sit either side of a manhole and use a marble to get through from one side to the other.

I enjoyed picnics in fields with my family, making daisy chains, riding my bike and running through meadows exploring nature.
