Wow! It is fantastic isn't it? I'd forgotten how good it was!

Dd got some book vouchers for Christmas. Took her to get some books and found this. I bought it for me, and M reading it again. It wad my best boom ever when I was little, and it's still great now.

This version even has a bow on the cover! Dd hasn't even been able to get near it!

I didn't read most of them until my thirties!

And still to find the last 'Gemma', I think (goodbye Gemma?)

Gemma and Sisters actually mentions Breasts. Breasts! There weren't any breasts in Ballet Shoes...

Madame, I have that copy too, and a more modern one as my old copy is falling apart and very fragile now. I think it used to be my aunts copy, so is some 20 years older than I am.

I wanted to be cool like Petrova and a bit of a successful dram lama like Pauline. I kinda managed both, I became a theatre lighting technician.
I also loved the follow up book "Curtain up" - about the Forbes Children at "the Academy" during WW2.

I think I claim the oldest edition for my first reading. It was my mother's, and I think she would have got it in the 40s or 50s. I can't find a copy online, but I remember it as a paperback with a pale green cover and the original illustrations. My mother suggested I read it when I was under the weather, and it became absolutely my favourite book, but it got more and more shabby with every read.

Finished ballet shoes and feel rather flat! What happened to them next?

It's rather frustrating.

Read the Painted Garden. It's a sort of sequel.

depankris, That is the one I have, too. It is an early Puffin, in the days when cheap paperbacks for children were a novelty!

I love it! Shame that many of the other books were essentially the same story line- but usually with less appealing characters. I like White Boots. I didn't get to read any of those books as a child. But my DC all have, and DD2 wanted to be Petrova....Smile

I ;loved the name Petrova as a child. It sounded so exotic and exciting.

Just finished the painted garden.
I really couldn't take to Jane Confused I tried so hard but meh. I did like the story though and I like Posy more than I did in Ballet Shoes.

They were all a bit annoying in The Painted Garden! The older I get the more I empathise with Aunt Cora Grin

I had the Painted Garden when I was younger had then a few years ago found a different version in a charity shop. Turned out the one I had originally was slightly abridged. No major changes but little additional parts here and there.
