I want to get my DS some Dr Seuss books. Looking on amazon I can afford to get 3 books at the moment. So which ones would you recommend to get us started?
Thanks

The Cat in the Hat
Green Eggs and Ham
Yertle the Turtle

bananaistheanswer · 18/07/2012 21:25

My DD loves all things Suess! I'd say Cat in the Hat is a must as is Green Eggs and Ham. Maybe the Lorax as well seeing as its just about to come out in the Cinema? We have quite a few - I especially like Oh the Things You'll Do (I think that's the title, might be wrong).

bananaistheanswer · 18/07/2012 21:26

It's Oh the Places You'll Go.

bananaistheanswer · 18/07/2012 21:27

Another favourite is The Sneetches.

Finbar · 18/07/2012 21:27

Book of Bedtime Stories. It had about three stories/poems - still beloved! Great pictures too

herethereeverywhere · 18/07/2012 21:31

Thanks for the suggestions. Looking forward to reading something new. I can read all of our other stories without looking at the book!

Costco have the full set on offer at £25 if that helps? Confused

PersonalClown · 18/07/2012 21:32

Green Eggs and Ham is a must. It's still my favourite!

herethereeverywhere · 18/07/2012 21:34

Thanks for the Costco suggestion! Will have a look now Smile

One of DD2's favourites is What was I scared of? It's about a little fellow who is followed everywhere (in the dark!) by a pair of green trousers with nobody inside until he's scared witless, but then realises that the 'spooky empty pants' are just as scared as he is. It's my favourite Seuss story :)

alana39 · 18/07/2012 22:00

Marvin K Mooney
Oh The Places You'll Go
The Cat In The Hat
I like lots more but these are the ones I never get bored with

goingtobefree · 18/07/2012 22:17

I am also looking for Dr Seuss books, but can't find it online in Costco.
Are they only available only in certain places?

SageMist · 18/07/2012 22:19

Take my advice, don't ever start with these books. Yes I know that lots of people love them, and lots of children. But after reading the three books I got in a box set I wanted to burn them, they are so excruciating.

Babylon1 · 19/07/2012 04:15

Oh SageMist Sad

They are brilliant. Author is a literacy genius Smile

My DDs adore the books and I think they're the only ones I don't get bored of reading to them.

I found the big box set in Costco at Derby today if that helps Smile

iseenodust · 19/07/2012 09:16

If you child is young start with One Fish two fish
Things you'll see on mulberry street is fab
DS really liked a lift the flap numbers to 100 that was a Dr Seuss anniv publication if that's out there still?
(I think green eggs and ham is very repetitive)

WhispersOfWickedness · 19/07/2012 09:20

DS 2.7 loves 'the foot book' and 'the eye book'. Also ' I can read with my eyes shut'. I agree, they are brilliant books, one of the series I never get bored of reading Smile

beginnersluck · 19/07/2012 09:22

The Sneetches has 4 stories in it (including the above mentioned, 'what was I afraid of') so it is good value in that sense! All of the stories in it are great too, of course!

MaisieM · 19/07/2012 09:30

Try 'There's a Wocket in my Pocket'. I've still got my copy and have bought copies for loads of relatives' children. Brilliant book.

nightswimmer · 19/07/2012 09:37

They are the most wonderful books. Perhaps Sagemist you never had them as a child and so don't look back at them with love? When kids are slightly older-The Lorax-it's brilliant! "I am the Lorax, I speak for the trees.." A man ahead of his time I think. As for the remark about certain ones being repetetive- kids LOVE repetition. They'll learn them off by heart

Peeenut · 19/07/2012 12:44

Ok I'm not answering your question but in case any one is interested ... the iPad apps are good.

herethereeverywhere · 19/07/2012 15:33

I didn't know about the app. Thanks will check that out as well Smile

We absolutely love 'What was I afraid of' those 'pale green pants with nobody inside them...' great stuff!

aladdinsane · 19/07/2012 23:15

I love Dr Seuss
The Lorax is my favourite but I had to change the ending for DS because it upset him too much. My ending didn't even rhyme but he was happy with it
Sadly the world is full of oncelers
I would also second the bedtime stories book, thidwick the big hearted moose is a great story

beanandspud · 20/07/2012 20:31

We started with The Cat in the Hat and DS (4) still loves it although I'm not sure that it's a favourite.

MaisieM - I loved 'There's a Wocket in my Pocket' too!

MaisieM · 20/07/2012 23:08

Ooooh another 'Wocket' fan!
