Hi

My DS loved Fantastic mr Fox, The BFG & Charlie & the chocolate Factory...

But he seems a tad scared of The witches & George's marvelous medicine so we have abandoned them Sad

Mrs Pepperpot did not spark any interest Sad

I have just ordered James & the giant peach from Amazon.....but am just wondering if anyone has other suggestions, but nothing with witches in as it seems to scare him

For Marion 5 was the age I tried a chapter book. I read Brer rabbit first as these were story collections and then moved on to The Adventurous Four. ( sing my old Enid Blyton collection first).

Still working through Fabulous four, Secret Seven, etc etc. I buy old ones on Ebay.

The quickie late to bed fave is Charlie Cooks favourite book.

I am half way through reading the Chronicles of Narnia and DS is 5.6.

He is throughly enjoying the books and loves knowing when its a new chapter.

Dhal again but "revolting rhymes" is the best book in the WORLD

We've read the first few Little House on the Prairie books together and my DS1 (who's 5) loved them)

For story collections, he adores Professor Branestawm there are loads of these, written between the 1930s and the 1970s about hilarious inventions going wrong.

He also really loves Barefoot Book of Indian Tales which I got out of the library and ended up having to buy he enjoyed it so much. Riddle Me This by the same publisher is a firm favourite too.

Teddy Robinson stories are very gentle, but lasted my two for a surprisingly long time.

Hello!
Have you tried the Mr Gum series? Bit like The Twits - gross and disgusting and very popular with primary age children! Writer was a stand-up comedian, and one of the books won the first Funny Prize.
Hope you enjoy! X

When I was little my dad read me The Iron Giant by Ted Hughes. Another lovely book is Haroun and the Sea of Stories by Salman Rushdie. I can't wait to read both to my DC once they're old enough.
