"Adult Only" things you'd pay a premium for. ** CHILDFREE SECTION**

* If in active, please note this is posted in the childfree section. *

Whether it exists or not, what do you / would you pay more for?

DH and I always pay through the nose to stay in a nice adults only resort when we go away. We won't even entertain staying somewhere with just an adults only section no matter how nice.

I went to London Zoo for Zoo Lates this year and it was adults only with drinks and nice food - worth every penny.

Wishful thinking - I would give my right arm for childfree flights or a truly adults only restaurant.

Restaurants, definitely. And pubs. Our local gets colonised by some kind of parent and child group occasionally, and it’s horrific. Little Arthur and Amelia bombing around shrieking their heads off whilst being gently parented. Ruins Friday after work drinkies.

thedevilinablackdress · 27/10/2023 09:24

Nothing really, I don't dislike children and tend to go on holiday out of school holiday times, and not to resort hotels anyway.
I've never found children that annoying on flights or in restaurants...no dogs in cafes or pubs tho, that might be worth an extra 20p on a flat white or pint.

LoobyDop · 27/10/2023 09:24

Zoo Lates sounds brilliant!

We have a decent amount of pubs near us where people would be frowned upon for taking their children to 😂

I love the Zoo lates! Would one million % pay for a child free flight. Same, always go to adult only resorts or hotels. Went for dinner this week at 8.30pm and there was a baby in the restaurant crying, felt so cruel, couldn't believe it was allowed.

Normalsizedsalad · 27/10/2023 09:29

Zoos would be brilliant. And similar things like educational nature trails etc. I still enjoy learning new things and exploring but it's often aimed at families so would look like a weirdo plus noise...

NunsKnickers · 27/10/2023 09:30

Flights
Train journeys
Cinemas
Theatres
Museums

I think the Zoo Lates thing is a brilliant idea!

Normalsizedsalad · 27/10/2023 09:34

God yeah. Theatres.
I took DH for ballet for the first time and the kid next to us kept kicking seats around, eating sweets from bag noisy bag... Just fucking ruined it. I even asked the mum to do something. Nah

Yuasa · 27/10/2023 09:34

I was never bothered by kids on flights until recently. Adults another matter… But then I had a few flights close together with young children behind and/or next to me. All except one were perfectly nice children, but I’ve realised that if they repeatedly kick/pummel the back of the seat (and they do as it’s the perfect distance for resting their legs against!) I’m loathe to say anything about it, whereas I would if it were an adult who should know better.

So, yeah, I’m probably a convert to childfree flights even if they aren’t half as bad as many adults!

justalittlesnoel · 27/10/2023 09:34

Zoo lates sounds fantastic!!

I would love child free cafes sometimes, or maybe at some NT properties. I sometimes feel out of place when it's all families with DC!

But then again I think childfree might be a broad stroke, I'd let some children in - the well behaved ones 😂

SoRainbowRhythms · 27/10/2023 09:36

Actually most modes of transport - I went from London to Leeds by train last week and my seat was kicked and my ear shouted into by the kid behind me for the whole journey.

Quiet carriage on all trains especially longer distance should be mandatory for companies. But that's I guess wishful thinking since they barely manage to run normal service😂

Our local gets so crowded on a Friday there's no room to bomb around 😃but yes, pretty much NunsKnickers list. Especially planes. The theatre trips I take tend not to be child friendly dramas.

I saw To Kill a Mockingbird earlier in the year and there were 2 children in front of me, approx 6 / 7. They asked very loud questions all the way through and kept trying to stand up. The ushers said they couldn't do anything because they were children. Was livid!

I've never understood why you take young children to things like that. They'll have little comprehension of it and it affects the enjoyment of people around them - and it can't be fun for them, either.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 27/10/2023 09:49

I don’t mind children at all but mine are grown so do like to avoid too many children on holiday. We do this by booking term time holidays but did book an adults only cruise ship next year. Not a ‘party’ style cruise, a sedate cruise where I’m more likely to be the youngest on board at nearly 50🤣

Possimpible · 27/10/2023 12:12

See now I'm thinking about this, I actually hardly ever see children! The only time I tend to get annoyed is a Saturday afternoon in a shopping centre when the place is full of them, but I mean that's on me for going at that time. Generally I've got a lifestyle that means we don't cross paths.

Holidays - it depends. We do like an adults-only if it's a 5* all-inclusive type holiday, but we went away recently out of school holidays and although there were some children there they weren't obnoxious. There was no kids club or baby pool at the hotel which might make all the difference (maybe especially WRT the type of parents who might go there??).

I kinda like seeing a well-behaved child at a restaurant or the ballet. If they're never taken, how will they learn how to behave? But with ballet/theatre/cinema I'd definitely pay a premium for a childfree/quiet session. Mind you, last time I went it was the grown woman beside me making all the noise. Can we just ban idiots?!

Oh - weddings... I do like a CF wedding. I guess not something I could pay for as a guest, but children do tend to ruin the ceremony with noise and the reception by changing the atmosphere.

Gyms - a lot of the gyms near me are 14+ (maybe younger?) and I just don't want teenagers at my gym

BitofaStramash · 27/10/2023 12:16

Children don't bother me but I pay to ban dogs.

That's nice but irrelevant as this is the childfree section.

Nothing. Confused I'm child free but I'm not an arsehole. Children are part of society and generally nice to have around when they're on good form.

AllegroConMoto · 27/10/2023 12:27

Zoo lates sound good, but I’d also like zoo earlies!

Why does everything adult-only need to have alcohol offered? I don’t drink and it’s tedious when everyone else around you is.

I’d also like adult-only (and dog-free…) times at National Trust places

Hbh17 · 27/10/2023 12:28

Flights, holidays, restaurants, theatres and cinemas (except for shows aimed at children, obviously).

Definitely train carriages, especially the Quiet Coach - why on earth do people book it when they have children with them?!

Weird comment - so everyone who goes on holiday to an adults-only resort or to a fancy restaurant that doesn't cater to children is an arsehole? Sometimes it's nice to have an atmosphere that's quieter or more sophisticated, or where you don't have to monitor your speech because of little ears.

@BitofaStramash Ah see I'd happily take my dog to a wedding or the gym if I could Grin

Rather depends on how you define 'good form' doesn't it? and not wanting the back of your plane seat kicked for the duration of the flight or see a performance without interruption and disturbance doesn't make you an arsehole.

underdramatic · 27/10/2023 12:41

A few things mentioned so I won’t repeat.

Supermarkets! Adult only shopping times 😂
