Voting Super Tuesday GIF by Geo Law

Murmur abour whether childfree topic should show in active/trending. Most of us probably did it that we clicked and commented on a thread in active without looking what topic it is in... We are, in my honest opinion, a bit of controversial topic😁 Some topics do not show in active/trending already (not looking to be special)

I raised it on site stuff (after talk on thread today), but I think it would be fair to vote and see.

No - let them show in active
Yes - not in active please

Votes in gifs get extra points (joking)

Personally, I think it's fine like this. This is a support subforum and that support is clearly seen in how people rally around when an "outsider" comes in to attack.

It also amuses me when someone announces that they are hiding this board. I bet they don't make that announcement on every board they have no interest in. "Dog people, I have no interest in you. Hiding your board now." Cool. Have a nice day, dear. 😂

Also, is it really that difficult to check what board you are on before you reply? Or does everyone just answer everything as if it is AIBU.

Actually you've hit on something there, over the years I've noticed the AIBU style of replying has reached into every board now.

I feel as though our Childfree section is an exception, those type of posters get shut down quickly.

Vote to stay in Active, better to be seen.

agnesmartin · 04/07/2023 22:32

Another vote for active.

I've not actually contributed to any thread yet, but that's just because I'm having an anti-social (media) phase.

Still reading occasionally though and love the topics so far. Definitely ones I can relate to as child free.

Would be a shame if others weren't able to find it because it was hidden.

PinkFootstool · 04/07/2023 22:40

I think stay in active.

I'm "childfree" but only after coming to terms (mostly!) with childlessness. It's great to have a place to speak to women who are living life without conforming to the expectation of kids being a necessity to somehow validate our existence.

Time will see this topic become more normal on the boards and less of an excitement for those who feel the need to berate others in order to justify their having had kids!

dudsville · 04/07/2023 22:49

Until now I haven't posted in it since the section was created, but I'm glad it's here and i do read. I'm just not sure yet how i want to participate. I'm working out whether i want to be a part of this tribe that by rights in a member of. When i was first aware that i was going to be childfree 10 years ago i joined something else and it didn't feel like a space for me in the end, so I'm feeling my way into this I wouldn't be aware if it of it weren't in active, but i do know i can search for you all! I did think that a lot of the chat from mums on the child free end of life care thread was off putting though and made me feel less inclined to post, so there is that.

Orangeradiorabbit · 04/07/2023 23:03

Stay in active.

It's the best way for me to keep up to date on the posts. I'm afraid I would forget to check to board regularly. It also helps childfree folk discover the board.

I don't think it's too hard to check where a post is situated before replying- the board title is is pretty clear in active.

Vellincharm · 04/07/2023 23:14

Active please 😀

Active please. I am prone to forgetting to check the ‘my feed’ button and the odd appearance of a thread in active is a good reminder to check out what’s going on.

Gif attached as requested 😉

HeidiUpTheMountain · 05/07/2023 08:28

Active, please. I want this space to be as mainstream as all the other areas of the boards, and not seen as somehow offensive or subversive. Because it isn’t. Mumsnet seems to cater for pretty much all areas and interests in life and society, and not having children doesn’t exclude us from that - so let’s not do it to ourselves.

Besides, we have all had a lot of practice at seeing off twats who feel moved to be shitty about our lack of children, so I think we will manage to moderate our own board (with the help of the MN delete button).

JorisBonson · 05/07/2023 09:10

I'm in the "keep and cute animals" camp.

garlictwist · 05/07/2023 09:16

Definitely active. I am child free and want to read this board but won't if it doesn't show up in active.

Cakesandbabes · 05/07/2023 09:40

Good vote!

Let's stay in. On site stuff there was a good question about which posts would be breaking guidelines. So as I understand intentionally inflamatory posts would be against talk guidlines. Just need a clarity if "why are you on MUUUUUMsnet?!" would be in it😂

Although there have been numerous posters who have been rude and sporting for a fight there have also been posters who are parents who have joined in with the spirit of the board

Good point, I think we have more support than not, and the ones who come on here with the snarky comments and the long posts 🙄have so far been easily seen off.

They've given us a perfect reason to ignore them and start posting cute animal pics in the Bingo thread ...

My guess is that most people check most of the time, but everyone makes the odd oversight, and so can respond infelicitously

But there are some try-too-hard posters, who ape an AIBU style (ie are just plain aggressive, without realising that's not the same as real viper bluntness) and take it everywhere - best ignored?
