Voting Super Tuesday GIF by Geo Law

Murmur abour whether childfree topic should show in active/trending. Most of us probably did it that we clicked and commented on a thread in active without looking what topic it is in... We are, in my honest opinion, a bit of controversial topic😁 Some topics do not show in active/trending already (not looking to be special)

I raised it on site stuff (after talk on thread today), but I think it would be fair to vote and see.

No - let them show in active
Yes - not in active please

Votes in gifs get extra points (joking)

On the fence here because not being in active will mean people who are CF won't find us. OTOH getting just a mite tired of parents chipping in - an example being the thread on who will look after you when you're old and all the comments about 'well, I've said to my kids I don't want them looking after me...'

On balance I think out of active. We won't get the traffic but I guess enough of us are active on other threads to steer people here. No ideal answer, is there?

Cakesandbabes · 04/07/2023 16:41

Yeah both have positives and negatives

TrundleWheel76 · 04/07/2023 16:45

Show in active.

To not do so would suggest that childfree mumsnetters are somehow less than other members. IMHO.

Ethelswith · 04/07/2023 16:50

My apologies for interloping - usually, I just lurk.

I like reading this board, because my DC are young adults and often my home has no children in it. I don't really post here, because it's rare I think I would have anything relevant to say.

But I wanted to say on this thread that I get a lot from lurking in this topic.

And unless unwelcome intrusions (and I do realise this post might be seen as a prime example!) really are unbearable to core regulars, I'd prefer to see it stay in Active (agree with TrundleWheel )

Whiiiissstle · 04/07/2023 17:39

Not sure it should be hidden, @TrundleWheel76 does make a good point about the board being hidden away. Does that mean we are lesser, or backing down to opposition that we should never have had this board in the first place by hiding it away?

If its hidden, then do others who were the intended core demographic have the chance of finding it easily. Does that take potential support away from posters who need advice on something, and don't feel another topic fits the question/problem etc. Or are worried about being piled on.

Although there have been numerous posters who have been rude and sporting for a fight there have also been posters who are parents who have joined in with the spirit of the board.

So all in all I think the positives of active outweigh the negative.

LorraineInSpain · 04/07/2023 17:43

I’d vote for it to stay in Active.

I keep forgetting to look at another board I’m interested in as it’s not in Active.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 04/07/2023 17:46

Good point, I think we have more support than not, and the ones who come on here with the snarky comments and the long posts 🙄have so far been easily seen off.

fitzwilliamdarcy · 04/07/2023 17:57

It’s really challenging isn’t it? There have been a few comments lately that have made me want this board taken out of active but overall I think it’s better that likeminded folk can find it.

There should be a rule that whenever someone trots up with some nonsense like “why are you on MUMSnet ha ha ha”, we all post a picture of a cute animal then return to whatever was being discussed.

Might have to rethink it for threads that need sensitive treatment but in general I think such people need to be ignored and given the respect they’re due by being seen to be ignored. It’s the only way they’ll stop doing it.

Cakesandbabes · 04/07/2023 18:03

Would MN be open to actually deleting that posts? By themselves, elswehere on MN they are annoying but tolerated, here, it's different.
Maybe that would actually be helpful. What do you all think?
@YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet would thay be possible considering the context of the topic?

There are only so many cute animals 🙈
But that thread was great. What was not great was poater running off to aibu trying to get some pitchforks in here

And failed miserably. And got deleted PDQ.

Cakesandbabes · 04/07/2023 18:14

That waa great actually

I’d support just pics of cats, I’m not picky!

Yeah to be fair I missed that whole thing. People that determined probably keep an eye on this board anyway though.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 04/07/2023 18:29

I welcome parents being on here - it's only the tedious minority who are the problem, and I expect they'll get bored soon. They also do a beautiful job of illustrating the prejudice that CF women face.

No Way Bird GIF

I vote no - stay in active. Otherwise people new to Mumsnet might not realise we exist. It took me weeks of lurking to pluck up the nerve to create an account as I was worried the childfree might be unwelcome. If I'd seen a board like this I would have joined sooner.

Keykat · 04/07/2023 18:46

Keep it in Active. Posters on all boards are due the same respect, and some don't have children because they cannot. It's not just people like me who chose not to. Everyone to have a voice, and be seen to have one.

Hazelnuttella · 04/07/2023 18:48

Could you ask mumsnet to add a notice like there is on Black Mumsnetters threads saying “this board is primarily for the use of Childfree posters etc”?

I’m not childfree so I’ll be off now…

guzzleandstuff · 04/07/2023 18:51

YES in active

According to people on that board, it doesn't work. There will always be people like me, who lurk but don't post because a board isn't aimed at them, then you will have the zero self-aware who charge in heavy footed regardless because of course everyone wants their opinion, don't they? we saw that on here at the weekend.

bookwormcrazy · 04/07/2023 19:10

I would vote to keep you n Active. That's where I spotted the "child free" forum. Otherwise I wouldn't have known it existed.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 04/07/2023 21:15

We are, in my honest opinion, a bit of controversial topic

Why? And if we are, we shouldn't be.

Stay in Active. Begrudgers can lump it.

KimberleyClark · 04/07/2023 21:22

I would vote to keep it in active for the same reasons specified above.

musixa · 04/07/2023 21:41

@Hazelnuttella Just re-read my post, and I hope you realised I meant the idea of putting a notice on the thread was a great idea - I didn't mean it was a great idea for you to leave the thread 😺

Hazelnuttella · 04/07/2023 22:00

@musixa that’s very sweet of you to clarify, but don’t worry I wasn’t offended.
I really am leaving this time 😁
