Anyone seen those Maltesers packets with mum quotes on, like "I love working with people who know the juggle is real" - Deb, mum of 3, or "when the boss knows the baby has pulled an all nighter and brings me a coffee" - Angie, mum of 3, etc?

exactly, that why I was against of a childfree mumsnetter board. Why having a board dedicated to be a childfree when almost everyboard you could write about a subject not related to children? This board is just full of posts againts mothers!!!!

No, it isn’t.

It has:

  • General chat thread
  • Thread about adult days out
  • Thread about cruises
  • Threads about wills/LPAs/financial planning
  • Thread about recent Guardian article being dismissive of childfree women
  • Thread about what board is for
  • Threads about our experiences being childless/free and cultural reactions
  • Thread about childless/free women we admire

These threads are: (a) not against mothers and (b) specifically targeted at the shared experiences we have, rather than the general boards where it’s assumed that we’re all mums and are asking questions from that perspective.

Some people have been bullied out of jobs, had to leave jobs, had their working lives made miserable etc because of parents or the way managers treat parents. It isn’t hard to imagine why someone would be annoyed by a malteasers packet telling them they need to ‘respect the juggle’ when they themselves get no respect at work.

well i got fired for being pregnant and spend 5 months of that pregnancy going to and from my lawyer and court. Then i was denied promotion for "you should concentrate on your family" and again for "you have children you won't be loyal to the company" and called incompetent when i had to bring my junior-school aged children to work on a saturday for a horror end of quarter closing (as the company knew my husband worked weekends)

So sorry if a company is drawing attention to it. Just don't buy them?

There are many issues that women have at work, many, not all, are related to being mums.

Honestly I get that people are still angry that we have the board, but it exists and that isn’t going to change. If it bothers you, just hide the board and don’t read the threads, surely?!

This board is just full of posts againts mothers!!!!

Examples, please? because I've been on this board pretty much from the start and while I can't claim to have read every post in every thread, I've read a lot of them and I can't recall it being full of posts against mothers - unless you're just assuming that a site for childfree women must by definition be lik that because we've nothing better to do?

Really looking forward to your examples.

It irritates me when any company decides they’re going to get involved with something that has bugger all to do with their product.

Maltesers adverts have been irritating for ages tbf.

No sign of any examples yet!

Yes, I was just going to say how surprising there’s been no examples yet, especially as the board is just full of them.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 01/07/2023 09:38

Still no examples....ah well.

Can't say it bothers me, I'm childfree by choice but support mums trying to balance it all, sounds crap (which is one reason why we decided not to have any children). Maternal mental health like most support services is woefully underfunded and there's still a stigma in women reaching out for help.
