Babedestiny, assuming you're the OP, ask the army for childminders on patch if you live on/near there. Lots of Forces wives seem to be nurses so childminders may well be used to NHS shift work without the support of a DH. If you do want to consider flexible working being a Firces wife is a good reason to put down as well.

Is your DH enlisted or a contractor? If he's enlisted you can get loads of help and support from organisations like SSAFA. Try the Force's Sweethearts section on here too even if he isn't. I'm not British Forces myself so can't give you a huge amount of help/advice - SSAFA is about as far as my knowledge goes - but the ladies on there know their stuff.

Even if you're not the OP I hope some of the info is useful.

Must write 100 times Forces' wives...

3 spellings in the above post, none of them correct. Can I plead sleep deprivation?

Tax Credits information from the MOD

I would suggest that you contact your nearest Army Families Fereration/HIVE and talk to them about what benefits you can get. I think Shorncliffe is your nearest.

Tax Credits forms need to be signed... that could cause an issue with your husband being abroad. Luckily HMRC Manual: NTC0070430 says that a legitimate reason for not signing is due to being away on active service. So all should be ok.

The MOD do provide Childcare Vouchers. These could be used to pay for registered childcare (registered childminder, registered nanny, nursery, preschool). More information is on the MODchildcare website.

There are other forces' wives on Mumsnet whom you may find know a lot more about specifics of claiming for benefits whilst you are in the UK and also when overseas. Try posting on: Forces' Sweethearts
