I have a dilemna, I have been feeling crap since yesterday evening..very sore throat, mild headache, bad stomac, diahorea , body aches, 38 degrees temp, I feel bad. Dont think it's the big one but clearly a bug !

I have a 9 month old with me, should I send him home in order to limit the risk of contagion or shall I wait for tonight ?

Ripeberry · 28/07/2009 15:32

I do hope you are not posting from work Scottishmummy.

aGalChangedHerName · 28/07/2009 15:32

Summerfruit just leave the thread. It's not worth it. Really hope you don't feel any worse x

scottishmummy · 28/07/2009 15:34

franklyMD a mother is not a paid employee with an implied duty of responsibility.nor does amum take a wage for services rendered

difference being as mum if unwell maybe someone else can help out.or if really unfortunate you have to bare alone

a CM is a paid adult who has standards of registration to adhere to

CM is paid employment not equatable to mum

Ripeberry · 28/07/2009 15:36

Lots of parents have jobs where they CAN'T just drop everything and come running home just because the CM or even their child is feeling ill.
It has to be really big, such as a hospital admission.
Some parents work far away from home and it could take them a couple of hours just to get back.
It's never that simple.

Mumcentreplus · 28/07/2009 15:40

I can understand why she accepted the child..she didn't want to let the parent down...wasn't sure if it was a bug at the beginning...and look the mother doen't give a toss..hahaha wot a joke..some necks need to wind back in me thinks..

Mumcentreplus · 28/07/2009 15:44

Thats very true also Ripeberry I work in London and live outside..it's very hard to just drop everything and run home

scottishmummy · 28/07/2009 15:46

no what she is unsure of now is the onset.in op it was "feeling crap since yesterday evening" which revised to "got worst by 2 o'clock"

if i had all her symptoms i would definitley recall whether it had been since yesterday evening or peaked approximately 26min after OP

what unable to recall if it has been many hours or recent onset.loss of sequential memory, that is worth seeing a doctor about

franklymydear · 28/07/2009 15:47

hehehehe liking your work Scottishmummy

MovingOutOfBlighty · 28/07/2009 15:49

I consider that the OP was going for brevity when putting down those symptoms later.
She seems like a reasonable, caring individual and I trust she wasn't backtracking as have faith in human nature.

Hope you have made the call Summer.

christinajanep · 28/07/2009 15:51

scottishmummy i am disgusted at your responses to this childminder and think they are rude and uncalled for.
I'm not saying i agree with the way its been handled but do not think it calls for your rudeness.
As a fellow childminder i know that some parents like to see you on your hands and knees feeling ill before they will collect their child and dont all have the ability to collect their child at the drop of a hat.

Childminders are caring and responsible adults. I noted you said thank god u sent your child to a nursery. well if whats been in the press recently is what happens in a nursery then i think thats a very stupid thing to say, i am not saying all nurseries are the same but theres alot of things that go on in nurseries that the parents dont see and i think if you did it may just make u eat your words.

I have enough of people slagging childminders off, we work friggin hard and have to achieve alot under the eyfs and ofsted guidelines and we have to achieve this by ourselves unlike nurseries who have key workers.
so pls give us childminders a break for once and maybe have a go at it yourselves and see how much hard work it is for such little pay but is the most rewarding job you'll ever have.

scottishmummy · 28/07/2009 15:54

ah brevity rather than accuracy?why embelish the story?or try namechange?

why would a tale of such brevity need a false name?attempt to protect anonimity...why

i dont know the OP.
i am going upon the inconsistent account
attempt at name changing
backtracking

dont know what this all means in relation to human nature

Ripeberry · 28/07/2009 15:54

Hear, hear Christina!

Summerfruit · 28/07/2009 15:54

You are truly idiotic...sorry if I can't be a bit more precise about when did the symptoms happen ? Do you seriously think that I would have worked if I was feeling that bad this morning ? Mmmmh what a pleasure looking after children when you are ill...I was not that bad this morning (and I said I'm feeling a bit better now)..Yep this morning I should have said to the mum, sorry cant look after your dd, I have a sore throat and a headache, I bet she would have been really understanding-not-...Since then we have spoked, and I told her the symptoms I was experiencing at the time, WE agreed I could keep her dd until 6 unless I couldn't cope anymore...

Ripeberry · 28/07/2009 15:55

Well the first name was not very good was it?

scottishmummy · 28/07/2009 15:57

chrstina i have no issue with CM.read my posts.i do have issues with potential cross infection from adult to child

can you not see as a CM this post is harrowing for any parent.all any parent wants is a safe nurturing environment for their child

that can be either CM or Nursery

op with her inconsistent story is not enhancing CM reputation

christinajanep · 28/07/2009 15:57

summerfruit i'd give up now... you dont have to explain yourself to scottishmummy at all, its very apparent she doesnt like childminders and in all honesty i dont think childminders would like her

AJW81 · 28/07/2009 15:59

Just to be clear Scottishmummy, Childminding is not paid employment nor do we receieve a wage. We are self employed and charge a fee for services used.

christinajanep · 28/07/2009 16:00

what and your messages are sending out a positive message, all they are saying is your very aggressive. As i said some parents want u at deaths door before they will collect their child and all parents are different so that is your opinion.

MovingOutOfBlighty · 28/07/2009 16:00

I am a parent who wants a safe nurturing environment for my dc and I don't find it in the least bit harrowing.
Also, surely a dc is just as likely to get something in a nursery, however well run, as there are so many more kids to pass on germs than just CM would be able to?

christinajanep · 28/07/2009 16:02

i know nurseries who allow children in whatever bug they have, thats not the environment i want for my child, i also dont want them looked after by 16yr old girls who have nothing better to do than talk about last nights tv or how drunk they'll get at the weekend

scottishmummy · 28/07/2009 16:03

it is still a financial transaction, payment received.yes i know it is self employed

the majority of CM and Nursery do a great job.i have no desire to skew this into a debacle about merits of either

then pls dont be so quick to "slag" childminders off as its very offensive

christinajanep · 28/07/2009 16:06

scottishmummy pls go back and read the message you posted at 14.45, and then i think an apology is in order to childminders

scottishmummy · 28/07/2009 16:07

christina stop trying to turn this into a nursery bashing

ease up on the chip shop anecdotes "i know someone who knew someone who said they beat dem children, those 16 yo nursery nurse reprobates"

thing is everyone can hurl nursery does this
CM did that

subjective unhelpful anecdotes mainly

i am alarmed here at a CM inconsistent changing account of her illness

not whether nursery or CM is best
