Come feel sorry for me.

Then, send me a nice new nanny who wants ti live in Sunbury.

Actually, I am sort of contemplating an au pair and a childminder. DD is 6 and DS will be 4 in May. Am I mad? Probably. I think work is going to send me away 2-3 nights per week so probably au pair won't cut it, actually.

Damn! Back to the drawing board...

Athene, did you get my message? No e-mail, just wondered!

theoriginalmummypoppins · 01/04/2009 06:35

AN. Got 4 Cv's for you. I have thrown loads away but one of these 4 might be ok. One I have interviewed so can tell you what I tink.

Will scan in and send on when I get to work.

Ive emailed you Athene with all the details

SadMarg · 01/04/2009 10:17

Athene - I was one of those that got into a tussle with you on that redundancy thread, and honestly I think your responses to my statements/questions quite clearly showed that not paying redundancy was just one of the perks, and not the main reason for not having long term nannies. I for one don't think there's any problem with hiring short term, especially if they are live in, for the reasons you gave.

Good luck finding a nanny!

ScottishThistle · 01/04/2009 11:18

theoriginalmummypoppins, I think it would be nice if you e-mailed the Nannies in question to ask if they are still looking for work and would they mind if you passed on their CV.

I wouldn't be happy if I thought my CV was being passed around without my consent, my personal details are on it!

theoriginalmummypoppins · 01/04/2009 18:44

St take your point but all only have email addresses.

callaird · 01/04/2009 20:24

Hi AN,

So sorry to hear that your nanny is leaving.

I hope you find someone else soon, luckily you have 7 weeks, should be plenty of time.
Also, it's an employers market right now, lots of people looking for positions, not so many offering them!

I don't know of anyone who is looking in your area unfortunately.

I think you are very honest and upfront about what you offer your nanny and think a lot of people shouldn't judge until they know all the facts.

I work 7am until 7pm, Monday to Friday, I do one overnight a week (sometimes more) I have two little ones constantly, ok some times I am a bit tired (like right now, but I haven't had a day off in 17 days, including 9 overnights!) but I knew what I was taking on in my job and I would feel like a failure if I just gave up, but I am older now, I guess when I was younger I might have just quit. I love my job. And I am sure that you wouldn't want a
forgetful nanny for your lovely children anyway!!!

Good luck on the nanny hunt.

callaird · 01/04/2009 20:26

Oh and why wouldn't she want to live in Sunbury??

Sunbury is a great place. And not just cos I was born there and most of my extended family still live there and I am visiting next week for a few days!!!

AtheneNoctua · 01/04/2009 20:59

Hiya Callaird. Long time no see. How are you?

Mind if I ask how much you do in the way of nursery duties/tidying/childrens laundry/etc.? Oh and how much cooking do you do, and how much does mb or db do?

Is it a permanent nanny you're after Athene, or just one til December?

AtheneNoctua · 01/04/2009 21:44

I only need a full time one until December. In Jan DS goes full time, but I still need hol cover. And I still need over night (probably, not for sure but it's a possibility). I was thinking I'd drop to an au pair when DS went to school full time but now I'm thinking that maybe not realistic in view of job travels.

Basically, I need one through December, but I haven't sorted out the way forward after that. Ideally, I guess I'd like a nanny from Jan onward who wants to do something else with her days, like study or get another job, or....

athene - sorry to hear about your nanny. would a nannyshare work in jan - may be someone who needs more full time care etc than your ds or could she do housekeeping stuff?

willowthewispa · 01/04/2009 22:37

Hi Athene, if you'd consider a temp nanny til December I would be quite interested. I'll email you with my details/CV if that's ok?

AtheneNoctua · 01/04/2009 22:57

Sure.

I'd come from Jan if I could find a Masters which started then! But alas you are in the wrong country and no-one here wants to let me study and work

callaird · 02/04/2009 14:26

Hi AN,

I'm good thanks. Have got 4 weeks holiday from next week and although I will miss the boys so much, I am actually really looking forward to it!! Although I am looking after ex-charges for some of it (glutton for punishment springs to mind!)

I do all nursery duties, washing, ironing, sorting clothes when they become too small, buy new ones when needed.

I dust the nursery and playroom twice a week but the housekeeper vacuum's them twice a week (when she remembers!) I make sure all the rooms we use during the day (including garden!) are tidy at the end of the day, swept and mopped if need be.

I do all the boys cooking, including what they eat at the weekend (batch cooked and frozen) MB's rarely cook for them as the boys eat earlier than they do. I do the food shopping for the family, although we have just started using Ocado for cleaning products/tinned stuff.

I do all their packing for holidays etc.

MB's don't really do any "nursery duties". They will do a wash at the weekend if the basket is full, dry it and put it in the airing cupboard for me to iron, but that's down to me as they would just put it away unironed but i like it to be ironed!!!! If they do put it away, I just get it out on Monday morning and iron it!

I do get 2 hours in the afternoon to do these duties, when the boys are asleep. They are in a great routine and sleep from 1-3 99% of the time, if they do wake up before 3, they will just chat quietly until we go up to get them!! They are so good!

AtheneNoctua · 02/04/2009 15:10

I think the AP+ and childminder combo is a brilliant idea. It gives AP time to do housework and also time to relax! It does sound like a handful but I think if someone is prepared to do it then keep advertising it!

willowthewispa · 02/04/2009 15:47

Callaird - I read that and thought how crazy you are to do all that ironing... then I remembered that yesterday I ironed the children's sheets and duvet covers I never do any ironing at my own house.

callaird · 03/04/2009 19:49

AN - I am sure there are nannies out there that do that as the norm! I have always done all these things. I forgot to add that I run errands for my MB's also, like yesterday I picked up their dry cleaning as I was passing and today I went out and brought a load of light bulbs and 2 bags of compost from B&Q. BUT I also haven't done much work today as the boys grandparents are down for the weekend and they looked after them while I did all my jobs and a couple more, I had a lie-in til 9am and finished at 5pm. And I start at 9am on Monday too.

Willow - I don't have any bedding to iron (at the moment!) the boys sleep in grobags and have fitted bottom cot sheets that don't need ironing, so it is only their clothes (and (don't tell anyone!!!) their pyjamas!) I don't even iron their mussies anymore! They only sleep with them and chew them! It's weird cos I love to see them in nice ironed clothes but after 15 minutes, like before we have even left the house, the clothes are all creased!! But I know they were in nicely pressed clothes. I think I get this from my mum, she always used to say that the state we went out in reflected on her, I feel the same, even when they go out at weekends!! I very rarely iron anything of mine and if I do, it's 2 minutes before I put it on!!

AtheneNoctua · 06/04/2009 21:25

I am happy to report she has unresigned.
