Taking Au-Pairs on holiday

I work as an Au-pair/Mothers help. I work 25 hours a week, helping to look after 4 children. My AP family require me to come away with them from a friday to a sunday. They are going for a grandparent's birthday. I will be required to generally 'muck in' and help. I am also required to babysit on the saturday evening for the 4 children plus their 2 cousins. I will have 6 children aged between 4 months and 9 years.
How would you work out the pay for this weekend? Or would you pay your AP at all?

In that case - and as it sounds that you've got a good relationship with them - say that although you would like to come to help them if you are honest you would prefer to spend the time at home with your DP and therefore really you feel you would like some compensation for it. That gives them the opportunity to decide to have you come but pay, or let you have time off as usual or whatever. Speak to them asap the more notice you give them the happier they'll be. They should also have it drawn to their attention that even though you enjoy your job, you also value your time off - the problem with live in roles is that sometimes the boundaries do get blurred.
