Is everyone getting to grips with it all yet. Are we all planning, observing and enjoying it?

Thanks Naveyelash

It's not so much that I feel I have to do something, after all I have been working to the B2T but it's having to relate everything that I do to the Six learning outcomes 'on paper' or have I got it wrong?

I care for a total of 4 under 18 months spread over 4 days and feel that the paperwork side is getting on top of me.

It's almost 10 o'clock and here I am on this blinkin computer printing out my Obs, short term, long term planning sheets, loads of Daily Risk Assessment sheets for everyday that I leave the house - ok I know I can have 'one' for the regular places that I go to (like a tick box) but it is still one every day with a new date isn't it.

Am I making more of it than I should be? I just don't know if I am making it more difficult for myself...

I don't really get planning side of this yet but the CM I work for (I am a CM assistant / nanny) and I have decided that lose monthly planning is fine so guess we will have to wait and see what inspection says in Feb!

Also not sure about doing risk assessment for everyday; I think you can do one for each place you visit regularly and then you only need to update it if something significant on the route changes such as road work where council dig a great big hole. At least that's how I understand it to be. But to be honest we are not 100% sure as neither of us have done the course yet!

For linking back to EYFS what we have done is just for one page of a4 had the main learning outcome, so personal social & emotional development as main page title then the 6 sub categories with a short note on what they mean. E.G. dispositions and attitudes - how a child becomes interested, motivated and excited about their learning. Next to this a big box to write how the child has done this.

"X was very happy today drawing pictures of dinosaurs; we got out 3 different dinosaurs models and talked about why they were all different shapes and why some had teeth whilst others didn't. X really enjoyed learning about the dinosaurs and made a jaw snapping movement with his arms to imitate a dinosaur eating & asked if we could go and see a real dinosaur one day" NEXT STEP: visit local dinosaur exhibition.

It think it could be also something as simple as, "X enjoyed the colouring in and asked lots of questions about what dinosaurs eat" or similar.

BCMA has some fab summative sheets which should help with linking but to be hinest I think ti will become easier one we are more familiar with the framwork and know all the headings and sub headings etc.

BCMA sheets for linking are here and here.

Don't know if what I have written is right, that's the problem with the framework there is no indication of how much CMs should be doing! But this is how I've interpreted it anyway

Stay happy TheIronLady maybe we should all pool resources - is that allowed?

Also I find the website way easier to use than the stupid pack.

If you look on here these are the 6 categories of learning and development.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Communication, Language and Literacy

Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

Physical Development

Creative Development

If you click on each heading it then tells you the sub headings for each one: so Creative development is main group and then the elements with in are:

Being Creative

Exploring Media and Materials

Creating Music and Dance

Developing Imagination and Imaginative Play

Then the observation would be "In a nursery class, a child spends some time independently exploring clay" and that would go into the exploring media and materials observation box.

I don't think the children have to have 1 observation in each sub heading - you just have to demonstrate that you have seen them doing something and will build on this in the future. Which most CMs do anyway!

Ps. Again I think

Disclaimer disclaimer disclaimer etc

KatyMac · 09/09/2008 07:27

Blimey - you are more use than a sodding course

I actually understand what you are saying (I think)

so Creating Music and Dance replaces eveloping competance & creativity or Enjoying sharing stories, songs rhymes and games from B23

So we just substitute these 24 (I think) for the B23 64

WOW

Wow

WOW

The BMA website is brilliant, I am recommending it to everyone cm I talk to!

It is laid out well and so easy to understand.

The CD Rom in the EYFS pack is also great though, there are video clips of good practice and useful links for each area.

KM you can see the lightbulb going on in your head, I'm still sat in a very dimly lit room, ah well I'm not panicking too much I'm doing my best and it will have to do.
