Well the kids do actually. I hate the nanny hunt and am so glad it's come to a close. I am also about current one leaving. But, at the same time, I am looking forward to getting to know the new one.

Now... Who wants to remind me what I should put in my house rules? The contract is written and agreed. Just need to put together house rules, welcome pack, local area info (like transport schedules, where the school is, etc.)

Oh, and nannies out there, can you give me some ideas for a welcome gift? Nothing terribly expensive say £50 or so. I was thinking nice flowers or maybe a voucher for a treatment at the spa/gym we go to (where she will also have a membership). Or, there is a fab Indian restaurant near us, so maybe a voucher there would be good (dinner for two would cost about £50).

OH Boo, really AN, what a bummer.

botherednanny · 18/08/2008 17:58

DB - my charge is nearly 3... if she was a school age child, I'd not be so miffed! how can your nanny not iron with a 7+9 year old?? thats pathetic...
once upon a time as a liddle baby mothers help I ironed the entire families ironing and washed all the windows of a 32 room country house whilst I had an 8 year old +a 4 four old entertaining themselves around me. I refused point blank to do these things when I had sole charge of the toddler though cuz I didn't think it was physically possible! just like it isn't possible with my charge now...

where'd you live, what's your situation

jura - you like tom waits! I think we need to become one formidable team of food covering goodiness

demandingboss · 18/08/2008 18:14

Midlands..have a live in at the moment but its not going well..........Lazy madam. Read my other thread. Time for a change I feel.

botherednanny · 18/08/2008 18:22

I totally would work for you!!

botherednanny · 18/08/2008 18:28

hang on... maybe there are two mumsnetters in the midlands with lazy live in nannies
I think the other one is mummypoppins
either way, I'm about this close >---< to uping sticks to the midlands... who'll have me!

demandingboss · 18/08/2008 18:31

FFS@no tea

JURA your ap obv needs to be told what to do, so i think a detailed list of her daily duties would be handy

ie 8am ready for work - DRESSED and in kitchen

then make breakfast for children, and give her a list of what food,ie toast, cereal, fruit etc

include any duties washing, ironing, changing beds etc, and finish off with a healthy and nuitrious(sp) tea at 5ish - maybe with a few menu choices for her till she gets the hang of it - followed by bath for younger child(unless you want to bath Jura)

I know she is young, but I started out sole charge nannying at just 18 (18 and 2 weeks)and managed to look after a 4mth and 5yr easily - though i NEVER washed 32 windows

BOTHERED - i would seriously consider whether you want to stay in your present job, they are taking the piss - maybe MP would like to move to london?

botherednanny · 19/08/2008 10:27

32 windows would have been bad enough but it was 32 rooms worth of windows grumble grumble although saying that, my 6-8 weekly duties in my job now are that I'm meant to clean the windows... not happy about it but hey!

Jura - I suspect she may be an au pair who needs total+utter management, I think you need to lay down the law. bit rubbish. keep us all informed thou as the saga unfolds

Oh please MP move to London! DB, don't suppose you have a sep flat do you?

demandingboss · 19/08/2008 11:04

Good god my nanny wouldnt lift a finger to do any cleaning even when my cleaner was off sick for 2 weeks. IF I had asked her to run the vac round she would have told me to shove it where the sun dont shine!

Yes we do have a sep flat and a heated swimming pool...........2 hours from London by train.

Jura if it helps I gave all my Au Pairs a daily timetable like imananny suggests. I also gave them a list of food they liked to eat.

Au Pairs are hard work which is why I swopped to a nanny........Ha ha with all the problems I am currently having!

oh dear.......see my comment on another thread ' you cant put in what god left out '........

Good Luck

squiffy · 19/08/2008 11:45

Mmmm. She sounds either very vacant or very forgetful or very lazy. An uphil struggle for you by the sounds of it. Hope it improves.

Would you have sacked her by now if she was in your office?

squiffy · 19/08/2008 11:46

hahahaha DB ,I had been thinking of putting that comment (suitably attributed to you of course) in my own post to Jura..

DB - would you accept a learner driver?? Tell me more about your job, I'm beginning to think we are the answer to each others prayers!

Of course, this is the point where you tell me you need a driver+I say "oh poo"

What does your nanny do whilst your 2 children are at school btw? Housekeeping? How frequent is your cleaner?

Would anyone on here think less of me if I hired a cleaner for my house on the sly I wonder its just that I saw one for £7ph, minimum of 2hrs... small price on my happiness..!

BN I absolutley need a confident driver I am afraid as the childrens school is 15 miles away on the motorway.

My nanny does the all the washing and ironing. Thats it....oh I forgot the chatting to the cleaner / gardener etc and the lazing about studying and Yoga / shopping for her not me !!

My cleaner does 12 hours a week.............except she has gone AWOL this week as well. ha ha .......its so crap the only thing I can do is laugh.

squiffy · 19/08/2008 13:38

Hey, DB, laughing works. Tis the only thing that keeps half of us going, I am sure (not that we'd confess it on those other threads of course)

botherednanny · 19/08/2008 14:25

Oh poo

Your job sounds well good.

I do all the washing now+I admittedly don't do any ironing (because they don't iron anything) but I'd much rather spend the school hours ironing than cleaning the entire house in the hours my charge is at nursery (3 mornings a weeks I might add)

As for studying, your nanny is taking the piss. I'm studying for an NVQ3/BTEC in childcare in my time never during work hours!!

And I get paid less too

orangina · 19/08/2008 14:27

I feel like I'm watching a potential romance unfold !

imananny · 19/08/2008 14:42

DB/MP why do you keep your nanny honey?

from all the posts I have read over the past year or two, i do wonder?

I am CERTAIN you would find a nanny/hk EASILY and one who doesnt take the piss out of you, and do bugger all/spend ALL your kitty money and is HAPPY to unload the DW - even I unload the DW - though I do bugger all else

if I didnt *LOVE my family that I work for, and didnt have a hubby, then I would come and work for you

the swimming pool lures me, and of course pimms you kindy offered (out of hours of course)
