Well the kids do actually. I hate the nanny hunt and am so glad it's come to a close. I am also about current one leaving. But, at the same time, I am looking forward to getting to know the new one.

Now... Who wants to remind me what I should put in my house rules? The contract is written and agreed. Just need to put together house rules, welcome pack, local area info (like transport schedules, where the school is, etc.)

Oh, and nannies out there, can you give me some ideas for a welcome gift? Nothing terribly expensive say £50 or so. I was thinking nice flowers or maybe a voucher for a treatment at the spa/gym we go to (where she will also have a membership). Or, there is a fab Indian restaurant near us, so maybe a voucher there would be good (dinner for two would cost about £50).

maybe you or DH could take her out a few times in evening/weekend = tedious but least it might give her the confidence and you would feel that she would be safe to drive your children about, as hopefully you would see pregress

AtheneNoctua · 17/08/2008 11:36

Does the spaceship have an autopilot?

botherednanny · 18/08/2008 00:27

LOL @ AN

jura - if my current work climate continues, I think that I may have to come and wrap cheese with you forever more I keep a very tidy linen cupboard too

£29 for driving lessons, where do you live?? I thought my lessons were daylight robbery @ £24..!

AtheneNoctua · 18/08/2008 08:45

BN, how are your current work conditions? Are you allowed to use the barbeque these days?

OP posts:
botherednanny · 18/08/2008 09:24

Well, things came to a bit of a head on Friday actually but it seems to be ok now.
I was basically being given grief for not doing the usual housework during the nursery holidays+my MB just seemed to not really care that I had laid out a different fun activity for us to do which meant we weren't really in all week so I couldn't do it...

There's a bit more to it than that but I think I'm just feeling unappreciated

Never did get round to mentioning the dammed BBQ... But thanks for asking AN

AtheneNoctua · 18/08/2008 09:33

Uh oh... I think you better mention the "dammed barbeque" before it blows up.

BOTHERED good grief- grrrrrrrrrrr for you - how do parents expect you to do all the stuff you normally do when XXX is at nursery, when she is on hols?

what does she want you to do - ignore her child, so she has a clean house?

JURA yes boss and saluted you - cheeky cow!!

her space rocket must have landed her in another universe to yours

AtheneNoctua · 18/08/2008 11:05

Jura,
I have a house rule that goes something like:

"Please be punctual and dressed appropriately for the day's activities at 8:00. I am normally in a hurry to get out the door for work and therefore need to rely on you being prepared to start the day before I leave."

That's not exact, but something to that effect.

If she started work at 6:00am I could maybe see that PJs would be okay. But 8:00 is not very early for a live in job.

imananny · 18/08/2008 11:25

live ins should up grateful they dont have a 15+min drive to work!!!

its not hard to be up and dressed at 8am FFS

squiffy · 18/08/2008 11:32

urgh Jura it is looking a bit ropey...she seems very young for a 22 year old. Sounds like she has never had any responsibility before? not doing dinner, not turning up on time, building space rockets... we await the next installment...

Well my new AP arrives tomorrow. Am hoping she is as good as she sounds - Finnish girl on gap year, needs to be fluent in English by time she starts international law degree next year. Wants to come to us because she hates cities and wants to ride horses at weekend, and wants to take DS swimming every day.

Definately too good to be true.

MatNanPlus · 18/08/2008 11:46

Jura at PJ's at 8am, i have done on many occasion but only if been up most of the night with new baby / sick child, why is it sicked on pj's aren't nearly as bad as sicked on day clothes

Hope end of day report is brighter [unsure]

Squiffy could be true, fingers crossed for you.

The Swedish new nanny here was MH before and is finding looking after a pretty easy 18m 9kg toddler taxing needs a sleep when he does after lunch, her day starts at 8am, he naps for 3 hrs and finsihes at 6pm, i do 8am to 1am daily and no chance of napping {am MN to baby sister}, really hope if she does quit it is when i am back here (5wks away to help an old family with 2nd baby) as it will be chaos for my temp replacement - mum is hands on as WFH but can't do her job and the littlies.

Fingers crossed for a pleasent mid day review then Jura

botherednanny · 18/08/2008 12:43

imananny - yes, that is exactly what she'd like. on several occasions she's informed me that I should put my charge on the landing with me so I can get some housework done - because after all, thats what she does oh+amazing time saving idea is I have to clean the bathroom when my charge is in the bath... not only do I find this a tad unsafe but tbh, the last thing I feel to do is clean a bathroom after an 11 hour day whilst doing the bedtime routine!

I'm beginning to wonder why I bother...

AtheneNoctua · 18/08/2008 12:49

I really think there is a match on this thread... Jura? bothered nanny? I mean really... it's not rocket science is it?

(sorry sorry, I couldn't resist. I am going to laugh about space rocket au pair for a long long time)

Jura, you are still coming out to play on the 29th aren't you?!?!

OP posts:
demandingboss · 18/08/2008 12:55

How old is your charge BN ?

My nanny says she cant get the ironing done with a 9 and 7 year old around which I find annoying but cleaning the bathroom whilst toddler is in it is awful!

Fancy a new job ? Think my nanny will find a redundancy notice in her post box soon.

AtheneNoctua · 18/08/2008 12:57

Oh, yet another good match brewing here...

(although I think your nanny should be fired not made redundant)
