I am extremely ill and looking for emergency childming over this bank holiday weekend but no one i call on a list of over 75 people in my area does any emergency childminding or knows of anyone whe does.

missed opportunity here for someone to make money.

oh well shall have to dream up some other alternatives.

Have a look on net mums childcare - or nannyjob - their might be people under the babysitting section or put up a post on the message board.

moocowme · 03/05/2008 11:17

oh you have to pay £50 to get the info.

looked up some of the names mentioned on www.childcarelink.gov.uk and none do weekends

moocowme · 03/05/2008 11:33

awww no get well soon, wish i could help but im too far, im in watford x

kkey21 · 03/05/2008 11:44

Oh sorry today is too short notice as we would need to go through paperwork etc and make it all above board so to speak....... Understand that is practically impossible when you feel so unwell but would need to cover myself legally.

I would offer collection/drop off but not sure i am what you are looking for.... Do you not have any family happy to give you a rest?

Do really feel for you as i had a day in January where i literally felt awful and my 2yr old really suffered..... typical my partner was in Liverpool at the time.

KatyMac · 03/05/2008 11:47

Can you get a local teenager just to be with the children in the house with you?

moocowme · 03/05/2008 11:47

i don't have any other family or relatives in the northern hemisphere that i know of so that is not an option. god i feel sick oh well shall have to suffer a bit more to go out for more medicine and tissues.

Only thing I can think of, is that if your child is at risk (ie. from you) then you could call the duty social worker and request that your child is taken into care. It's a bit drastic though. This isn't childcare... it's having your child removed, voluntarily, from your care.

KatyMac · 03/05/2008 11:57

Ring the local Vicar & see if he can find you a teenager

Contact the local Post Office - they might have someone advertising babysitting

Community can work sometimes

nannynick · 03/05/2008 11:58

Have you asked neighbours? Even if they can't help themselves, perhaps they will know of someone who can. What about the child's father, can he care for his son/dauthger?

moocowme · 03/05/2008 12:09

i don't speak the same language as our neighbours except for the one thats a complete lunatic and threatens all the other neighbours (oh and we live in such a nice little town!).

no i never ever want anytheing ever to do with social services so that is not an option.

guess i shall shuffle down to church in the morning and pass him round a bit. one of my friends might be their in the morning (don't know her phone number) and her daughters do babysitting.

well can't do anything now as DS has chickenpox. just need to get this confirmed. not impressed with the CM who did not tell me until after DS had been last week that another child was recovering from it.

OP posts:
nannynick · 04/05/2008 08:22

The CM may not have known at that time, if the parents of that child had not told them why their child was unwell.

phraedd · 04/05/2008 09:13

I occasionally do emergency childcare (if i have the availablilty)

I too am in Herts.

MummyDoIt · 04/05/2008 09:21

Have you tried a nanny agency? We used one to look after the DCs while we went to my father's funeral. Some of them do emergency cover/night cover, etc. I think there's one called Central Nannies that covers the North Herts area.

moocowme · 04/05/2008 09:39

CM certainly knew the child had chicken pox. you could not miss it and told me that is why this child had a few days off last week.

OP posts:
KatyMac · 04/05/2008 09:43

Incubation for chicken pox is 2 weeks your DS probably caught it before the other child knew he had it
