mumlove · 29/04/2008 07:38

Morning everyone.

Grey skies here again at the moment so will wait to see if it rains for the school run.

KatyMac · 29/04/2008 07:56

Sunshine here in Norfolk - I guess we are heading for a drought.....it's normally announced after 3 or 4 dry days

thebumcleaner · 29/04/2008 08:01

Sunny here as well in Suffolk.

eleanorsmum · 29/04/2008 08:15

grey and damp here, just waitng for mindees to arrive then off to library, post office and then back for lunch off to pre-school and out to toddler group, back from toddlers collect dd off to ballet then home and drop offs on the way! oh i cram too much into tuesdays! good job they only happen once a week! dd wants to do gymnastics aswell which would mean another day the same! mmmm will have to think. don't wnat her to miss out but!

have a good day all, be it rain or shine

vInTaGeVioLeT · 29/04/2008 08:23

mornin' it's a glorious sunny day here in Devon it's mad rush for me at lunchtime but an easy couple of hours before school pick-up. have a good day

crace · 29/04/2008 08:31

Yep, been raining here this morning -blech.

Half day today which will be nice - dd caught another cold and was miserable yesterday, bit better today but she will probably go for a nap. Hooray!

KatyMac · 29/04/2008 09:47

Peeps what do you think? A very small exclusive nursery with lots of outside space? or a medium sized one with less outside space?

I know it's not childminding - but you lot support me so much

KaySamuels · 29/04/2008 09:52

Hi everyone

KM I would go with lots of outdoor space as I love the outdoors and so should kids . When you say exclusive would this help balance your finances as obv smaller nursery = smaller amount of fees.

southernbelle77 · 29/04/2008 10:01

Morning all! No work today for me - horray!!
About to start on a mad dash of cleaning before picking dd up from preschool.

Trying to think what would be best Katy. The idea of a small exclusive one sounds good, although I wonder if a medium sized might make more money!

crace · 29/04/2008 10:04

How do you mean exclusive Katy? Small and intimate? Personally as a parent that is what I'd want, rather like a c/m right? On the other hand, people like big nurseries too.

Hi Kay, how's it going?!

KatyMac · 29/04/2008 10:12

6 children different 30 vs 24

Crace - stressful

BoysAreLikeDogs · 29/04/2008 10:20

Hi all

Katy, go small if you can afford it.

eleanorsmum · 29/04/2008 11:12

katy - deff more outside space. kids don't get enough fresh air at home! you could put up a canopy maybe so they can still be outside if raining. dd's new school has this is the nursery section and kids can go in and out to water play and sand when they like even if rainy (coats on of course!). please continue to lurk in here, we're all getting quite excited for you!

back from library, both mindees asleep dd watching something special (with me of course ) then to do lunch for us both. will have to wake mindees to go to pre-school. hate doing that!

ROSEgarden · 29/04/2008 11:25

Hi Katy, the smaller nursery with more outside space sounds best, after all its not SMALL just SMALLER! and when finances suit you can have playhouses etc built outside..plus the fresh air/excersize benefit over weighs the indoor space IMO.

KatyMac · 29/04/2008 11:58

It's tricky isn't it

mumlove · 29/04/2008 12:55

Katy - can you mark out the size of the outdoor area in your garden or the park etc and see how many children could play easily in that space (you would have to get some extras in for a while though).

mumlove · 29/04/2008 12:58

Sorry forgot to add the maximum amount at any one time, this might help decide.

hennipenni · 29/04/2008 13:27

Afternoon, tis a bit grey now but no rain as yet.

Katy, i would go for small and homely myself.

Does anybody know where I can download pictures of musical instruments to colour and cut out? I'm being a good C/M as mindees are doing about musical instruments at school nursery, I'm "complimenting" the topic at home ala "EYFS"

shoshe · 29/04/2008 14:05

Thunder lightening driving rain, WHERE HAS THE SUN GONE!!!. It was beautiful here all weekend.

ROSEgarden · 29/04/2008 14:08

vInTaGeVioLeT · 29/04/2008 14:15

grrrrr . . . . i'm soaked!

vInTaGeVioLeT · 29/04/2008 14:17

i'm being a good c/m and we're doing maps to compliment all the blardy walking we do in the fresh air ala EYFS

dmo · 29/04/2008 14:28

big story so bear with me hope someone can help!
2 mths ago a lovely couple contacted me to have their baby but they needed 3 days i only had 2 days so said i would ask around for them.
finally found a new cm and passed the number on they went to visit and phoned back very pleased and said she was lovely and thanks very much for finding her (etc etc)
anyway last wed the dad phoned to ask a couple of questions

  1. how much would you charge for 3 days
  2. how much do you charge in hols (baby is term time only) so i told him i charge by the hour so i would add up how many hrs they did in the 3 days and charge them that and in the hols its 1/4 fees to keep the place. fine thanks he said and that was that. thursday he rang back to talk again saying the cm had now changed her mind from when they first started and would be charging them for 5 days as she couldnt just fill 2 days and in the hols they would have to pay in full for 5 days but the baby couldnt go i told dad to ask the cm to ring me cm rings on thursday 6pm and said its none of my business and what was i doing talking to her parents. i explained they needed advice and as they had got to know me they had phoned me, i told her that it was her business she is self employed to could charge what she wanted but that the parents didnt understand why they had to pay all that money if the baby couldnt go in the hols. anyway she got nasty a bit to me saying i was trying to steal business from her until i pointed out that i didnt have the days they needed and i gave the business to her. i then had to go out to a school thing and came home at 9pm to an answer message from the dad wanted to speak to me again. so phoned dad back he was very upset the cm and phoned him back and gave them 4wks notice said she wanted paying in full but that baby should not come in the notice period and put the phone down on him.

baby is nearly 6mths old this is their first child i felt so sorry for them but also guilty so i offered to have the child for them on mon/tues until they get sorted

hennipenni · 29/04/2008 14:32

Thanks rose, will try them. Does anybody have any educational websites that they use for resourses?

Blooming EYFS, what ever happened to home based care

I went to a network meeting recently where EYFS was discussed (what else?). Was extremely shocked to hear that Ofsted were thinking about reducing the frequency of inspections to between every 3 to 6 years if you got a good or outstanding in your last inspection. Now, I know that a lot of us hate inspections but this time gap will not do us any favours as a proffesion.

crace · 29/04/2008 15:31

Dmo, blardy heck huh?? She can't actually give notice surely and not let the baby come? She sounds crazy to be honest! What can you do, they asked YOU it's not as if you were hunting them down.
