Our tots group did some games this am for Sport Relief, the Children's Centre let us use the new nursery room while it is empty as we had some builders doing some drilling in our tots room next door.

Am feeling blocked up this afternoon, hope am not going down with a cold.

Just come back from ds parent/teacher meeting, glowing report from main teacher and also from part time teacher which was nice. .

Mindee watching tv after having had some tea, he didn't want to do any activity after me putting it out. I don't know why I bother planning, half the time he just doesn't want to do anything and I can never get any evidence for OFSTED. I can't force him really, he's only 4 and is quite tired after a day in school.

Quick question...

Would any of you take on a child you had never met (or the parent/s) tomorrow?

Equally, as a parent, would you send your dc to a childminder when you had never met them or anything??

LoveMyGirls · 11/03/2008 17:56

I have taken on a child without the mother even speaking to me, she sent me a text and the next morning they came and she did paperwork and he stayed for the day - have to say I think she just wanted free childcare and was probably in trouble with the previous childminder so if you do take on anyone who does this make sure you are wary!

As a parent no way would i do this.

KaySamuels · 11/03/2008 18:00

The only parent I have ever had do this is constantly messing me about and I know the family went through over a dozen cms before me!

I would be cautious. Do you usually ask for payment in advance? Make sure you have a trial period, late payment fee and so on your contract.

As a parent I would never do this.

It's not me! It's a friend of mine. She asked the lady to come today but wouldn't come because the baby was due a sleep. now, maybe it's just me, but if it was a question of meeting childminder or not, I would change the routine for that one day.
She has told her it's payment in advance and is putting a 4 week settling in period in the contract so if it doesn't work then she can easily get out of it.
I did ask her what she would do if the lady doesn't pay in the morning but guess she will deal with that when it happens, although I know her very well and I know she will still take the child on hope she gets paid in the evening!
All sounds a bit odd to me, but then I am suspicious of everything
It may well work out great! I hope it does!

If it was me I'd probably do it too by the way! just wanted to know what everyone else thought!

Hey everyone, being a bit self centred here today so thanks for putting up with me. Very tired from running around like a blue arsed fly so will catch up with you all tomorrow. Off to bed soon (yes, really ) but meeting went very well with SN person at secondary school so feeling a lot more positive. He threw a major wobbly but I think he's very overwhelmed bless him.

southernbelle77 · 11/03/2008 19:44

Aww no need to worry about that, you've had a lot going on.

Glad the meeting went well and you are feeling more positive
