My new nanny...

is fab!

When I come home the house is.... get this.... clean! Oh joy. I could kiss her. (but I won't)

When I get home she goes out of her way to give me a verbal report on the status of runny nappies and DD's resistance to go to ballet (she's fine when she is there but she declares she hates it before going in). This verbal update is only necessary because the nanny diary vanished on old nanny's departure (ho hum). New one has been ordered but has not yet arrived.

She is lovely, and DD has already bonded with her.

DD has not mentioned old nanny and doesn't seem at all bothered that she has left.

I think I might buy her some creche passes at the gym so she can chuck DS into the crech and go work out in the morning when DD is at school. Or maybe a Starbucks voucher so she get some coffe and treats when she wants (for her, not for the kids).

What else could I do to make her life a bit more pleasant?

our current nanny is wonderful too -- they are out there!

eleusis · 07/03/2008 10:04

"nanny-bliss" I like that.

now and again, i buy easy to cook food for the kids - from this website

www.cookfood.net

(well, we actually have a store on our road, so i don't order it on line)

which maybe once or twice every couple of weeks she can have a less harassed day preparing meals etc.

Page62 · 07/03/2008 10:38

i am assuming btw, that i will not be condemned as a bad mother at least on this thread for (shock horror) buying my children pre-cooked food now and again.......

legalalien · 07/03/2008 10:42

the miniscoff salmon pasta from waitrose is pretty good, as are the frozen annabel karmel meals (links arms with page62 and prepares to fight off scores of mums with pitchforks)

eleusis · 07/03/2008 10:58

Oh, that place looks fab. I could give up cooking on the weekend [selfish emoticon].

So, which meals do you get? The fish pie looks good. I could fill the freezer in no time at all. Might need a new freezer.

There doesn't seem to be a delivery slot system like on Tesco.com where you choose a 2 hour time slot. Does this mean you have to sit home all day waiting for delivery? If so, I think I won't be able to do it.

I'm not really sure how it works. But i'm sure you can do it on best efforts. If your nanny is there, great. If not, i'm sure they can leave with a neighbour as it is in an insulated cool box so it stays frozen....

the fish pie is good. and i am also known to scoff the spaghetti and meatballs. they also do fish and chicken goujons (spelling?) - ie. fish and chicken fingers, but theirs is ultra yummy.

sometimes i get adult lasagne, and halve it for the 2 kids and just cook peas on the side.

damn, there goes my plan to depict myself as yummy mummy who shells her own peas and will only ever touch organic everything.

see, anything to be helpful to people who never slate me for working

missiesparkles · 07/03/2008 11:59

yay for you

does this mean I should call availiable suitors for canada nanny off then?

Squiffy · 07/03/2008 12:09

Welcome to nanny-bliss it is a happy happy place to be. My Fab nanny is currently refusing her BF's continual requests that she move up to Manchester because she doesn't want to leave us , here's hoping things stay on the up for all of us.

How is the hunt going, flowery?

And Page62 I lurved that link and am v excited because according to that website they now stock some of their stuff in my local farm shop. I will sniff them out.

I do like happy threads.

ElaineBH · 07/03/2008 12:53

Help please! I'm looking for a nanny / mums help to take my 10yr old and 6 yr olds sons to school, do housework, collect from school and make tea etc until 5.30pm. Wednesdays, Thursdays and occasionally a Friday as well. in the Harpenden (Hertfordshire) area. Is anyone local looking for a nanny share please?

eleusis · 07/03/2008 13:26

No, don't call it off. Lovely new nanny is going back to school in Poland in September. So I need to replace her then.

Elaine, I think you need an au pair, if you have live in space.

I think I'm going to go with creche vouchers for lovely new nanny. They are very easy to obtain and no one needs to be home for delivery.

quint · 07/03/2008 13:36

So nice to see people appreciating their nannies.

Eleusis - if your nanny is a gym kind of girl then I think she owuld love the vouchers. I used to really appreciate a thank you when my old bosses got home, and they would occasionally get home a bit earlier and take over so I had an earlier finish time - that would be good too.

flowerybeanbag · 07/03/2008 13:37

squiffy - not brilliant. Had one that we met, seemed good, asked her to come back and meet DS, and she is being elusive to say the least, so I think that's a no.

Have briefed another agency much better than the ridiculously crap one I had before, they seem good and are listening to what I want, updating me regularly and not sending me unsuitables, but no suitables either...

Have one more who sent me cv couple of days ago who might be a possible, fingers crossed!

NiftyNanny · 07/03/2008 13:47

Eleusis, I think there's a CookFood shop in Barnes village so if you're a member, the next time you go to the wetlands centre you could drop by. That is, if you can ever find a parking space in Barnes.....

They do look amazing "proper" food.

eleusis · 07/03/2008 13:57

They should open one in Richmond/Twickenham!

Or we have a work do in Chiswick next week. Maybe I'll go by that one... if they don't close before I leave work, but they probably do.

Okay, I'm settled. Will pick up vouchers for the creche.

missiesparkles · 07/03/2008 14:02

ok, will keep 'em on the back burner for then

if you could let my new family know about gym vouchers, that'd be nice!!

NiftyNanny · 07/03/2008 14:11

Gym vouchers sound awesome, by the way. Is your nanny is live-in? She will appreciate it I'm sure.

My charge is starting playschool in Sept 5 mornings a week and I'm beginning to wonder what I'll do with that time. The ironing and everything I get out of the way during his nap. Golly. I'm already feeling guilty about down time andwwe're months away.

Do you think it'd be acceptable for a nanny to do that while he was busy - go to the gym? It's not as though I'd have the option to wait around for him, either.

I can't believe I used to be an office based lummock, now I've got a job which is fun, relaxed, rewarding and in a few month's time I might even get 15 hours a week effectively to myself and get paid for it. Huh! Pretty soon there is going to be a rush of people becoming nannies when they realise what a brilliant job it is...

eleusis · 07/03/2008 14:20

Yes, she's live in.

I think it depends on your employer. Some would not appreciate paying you to go work out. I don't really mind. So long as the kids are care for, I'm happy for her to go work out.

DN, the kids, and I all belong to the same gym (DH not a gym type). So, Iknow that the creche is nice and I'm very happy for DS to spend time there. I work long hours (which means so does my nanny) and I know I'm really tired and have to force myself onto the treadmill two eveings a week. And I was thinking she probably has the same problem so she might really like being able to go early in the day.

Anyway, I think you should run it by your employer before you go work out during work time. But they might be happy with it so long as kids are otherwise occupied (i.e. school)
